Golden Tempo captured the hearts of the sporting world with dramatic wins in both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes in the Spring. With the high-profile Summer Stakes races getting under way, trainer Cherie DeVaux has mapped out a plan for her prized three-year-old colt that has him training up to his next start in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on August 29.

Golden Tempo Leader Among Three-Year-Old Class

In winning the world’s most famous race, Golden Tempo placed himself as a real player in the Thoroughbred game. Last down the backstretch, lightning struck as this stretch-running son of Curlin thundered home with powerful strides and won the Kentucky Derby at odds of 23 to 1 under a brilliant ride from jockey Jose Ortiz. The more you replay Derby 152, the more amazing it becomes as this miraculous run was nothing short of Golden.

After bypassing the Preakness Stakes, the Golden Tempo team went to Saratoga for the Belmont Stakes with something to prove. After becoming the first female to condition a Kentucky Derby champion, DeVaux was eager to show she was not a rising female trainer but just a rising trainer period. Tempo carried that 23 to 1 moniker into the starting gates as other entrants were favored over him as some viewed him as a “lucky” winner on the first Saturday in May. And then the gates opened and Golden Tempo set the record straight. Breaking from the outside post in a 9-horse field, the Phipps Stables and St. Elias Stables owned colt careened up the backstretch looking at all the others. When the real running started, there was Golden Tempo confidently crushing it down the stretch. Rolling to the finish a powerful length and a quarter to the good, there was no doubt as to who the best three-year-old was on that day and in this 2026 crop.

Slight Health Issue Dictates Decision To Train Up To Travers Stakes

As Golden Tempo currently resides at the head of the three-year-old class, others have been eager to take him on. The original plan was to run a race between the Belmont and the Travers as a prep for the Mid-Summer Derby. As the oldest Stakes race for three-year-olds in the United States, the Travers carries major importance in the sport. After a health hiccup, DeVaux decided to keep her colt on the training track until it was time for the summer showcase on August 29.

“Golden Tempo had the beginning of a lung infection and he had to miss some training”, says DeVaux. “He is doing just fine now and is back on the training track now but it was enough we thought it was best to just train up to the Travers.”

The Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 18 and the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga on August 1 are both major prep races for the Travers and could determine who will enter the starting gates against Golden Tempo in the Spa’s marquee event for three-year-old colts. For the Tempo team, the opposition is not a concern, simply being ready to be Golden again on race day is the focus.

Golden Tempo has three wins and two third place finishes in five career starts while earning $4,633,000 on the track. %!s()

Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for US Senate in Maine, is suspending his campaign following sexual assault allegations.

Platner announced his decision in an 11-minute video posted to social media on Wednesday evening, in which he angrily accused the Democratic establishment and corporate media of “using these allegations to take away all of the things we need to run a campaign” and acting “as judge, jury and executioner”.

Cells sitting side by side in the same tissues are not identical. Each cell carries its own subtly different chemical signature—a hidden individuality that can reveal how diseases take root and spread. Now, researchers from the University of Osaka have developed a technique sensitive enough to capture this cell-by-cell diversity within tissues with unprecedented precision and stability. Their study is published in the journal Analytical Chemistry.

The FIFA World Cup is really bringing its first Halftime Show to another level by initially announcing global superstars BTS, Madonna, and Shakira for the show. Now, they’ve leveled it up even further by announcing Justin Bieber for the mix.

On July 19, at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, four of the biggest performers in the world came together for the very first FIFA Final Halftime Show, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. This has already reached Super Bowl levels with this lineup.

Bieber recently brought down the house at this year’s Coachella, playing both weekends as the headliner. Since then, fans have been wanting to see more of the Swag artist.

“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can,” Bieber said in a press statement. “I’m grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed how important it is to come together for education. He states, “We are proud to have Justin Bieber joining Madonna, Shakira and BTS to co-headline the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and our mission to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world.”

It’s hard to believe the show is only 11 minutes long. It will also include Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy (who sang the Official 2026 World Cup song, “Dai Dai,” with Shakira), Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the Webby Award-winning PS22 Chorus – made up of elementary school kids from Staten Island, New York - and characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets. Oh, Coldplay too.

Burna Boy and Shakira performed their World Cup song during this year’s Opening Ceremony at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11, as the headline performers.

“The FIFA World Cup is one of the few moments that truly bring the entire world together,” said Burna Boy. “To represent Africa on the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show is a privilege and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly. I'm honored to be part of a performance that not only celebrates football and culture but also helps create greater opportunities for children through education around the world.”

The Halftime Show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Fund, set to raise $100 million to expand access to education and football for youth worldwide. They’ve already raised over $50 million from World Cup match ticket sales, with the organization donating $1 per ticket sold.

There are only eight teams left in the World Cup: Argentina, Belgium, England, France, Morocco, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland. With more games set in the next three weeks, the world waits to see who will be in the final.

The FIFA World Cup Final will be on Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. %!s()
