As Lander attended a demonstration on Saturday against the event, organized by the Hindu nationalist RSS movement and where Mohan Bhagwat, leader of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was speaking, he was confronted by several protesters demanding that he leave the rally.

“We don’t want no Zionists here. Get the fuck out!” one man yelled at Lander in a video circulating online. “You say you’re a liberal but we know how you act.” Another shouted: “You’re a Zionist, we don’t need you. We don’t need your help!”

Other protesters welcomed Lander’s presence at the event and defended him against the heckling. “Thank you for coming, thank you for standing in solidarity with us,” one man told Lander, shaking his hand.

Lander, who is Jewish and an outspoken critic of the Israeli government, describes himself as a liberal Zionist – stating that he believes in the vision of Israel as a safe, Jewish home, but argues that it cannot ever be a true democracy while it continues to occupy Palestinian land and deny Palestinians their human rights and freedom.

He condemns Israel’s continued occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, supported the restriction of US military aid to Israel, and believes that Israel’s military campaign in Gaza after the 7 October 2023 Hamas attacks amounts to genocide.

An ally of the New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, and a former comptroller for the city, Lander is the progressive candidate for the US House of Representatives New York’s 10th congressional district. His critical approach to Israel was a key factor in his thumping primary victory in June against fellow Jew and Zionist Dan Goldman, a prominent supporter of Israel.

Lander appeared undeterred by the abuse and determined to remain at the rally, which he had been invited to, on Saturday. In one exchange, he calmly responded, “Bring it on,” when a protester wearing a face mask and sunglasses shouted in his face that he was a “Zionist ball sack”.

In a statement to CNN on Sunday evening, Lander said: “Yesterday’s event was dedicated to standing up against the persecution of religious minorities. I was honored to be invited and glad to participate.

“I won’t stop joining rallies against hate – in India, in Israel and Palestine, or in New York City – because of a couple of loud numbskulls.”

Hindu and Muslim groups also leapt to Lander’s defense on Sunday. The Indian American Muslim Council said on X: “The individuals responsible were not part of IAMC or our coalition and did not speak for us. Our fight … requires building strong coalitions, respecting differences, and working together wherever we share common ground. Insulting or silencing allies undermines that work and is unacceptable. We offer Brad Lander our sincere apologies for the treatment he received.”

Hindus for Human Rights said on X: “Brad Lander is a Jewish leader who has vocally disavowed the genocide in Palestine and is a rare progressive voice against the RSS. Multiple organizations invited Brad to the protest as a longtime ally who understands the majority’s role in combating hate in their communities.”

The confrontations Lander experienced are telling of tensions within the United States over Israel. Public opinion in the US has shifted against the country over its actions in Gaza in a historic way, while a wave of progressive candidates have swept to victory amid pro-Palestinian sentiment and criticism of Israel.

The incident has also tapped into an aspect of the debate where the lines between anti-Zionism and antisemitism are often blurred, with some commentary on social media suggesting that people hurled abuse at Lander because he is Jewish.

But in a video shared on Substack, the liberal commentator Peter Beinart argued that the people harassing Lander “are rude, obnoxious, self-righteous, they’re really kind of acting like assholes. But they’re not saying anything antisemitic.”

Highlighting that the protesters explicitly took issue with Lander’s self-declared Zionism, not his Jewishness, Beinart added: “The term antisemite should be reserved for clear cases in which people have an animus towards Jews as Jews.” %!s()

Merseyside police were contacted by a passerby who had found the woman’s body in Stanley Park, in the Anfield area of Liverpool, at about 5.25pm on Friday 28 August.

The body was found in a black bin bag in the walled garden area of the park. It is believed that it may have lain there undiscovered for a number of weeks.

“A postmortem took place on Saturday 29 August, the result of which has been withheld for investigation reasons,” Det Supt Rachel Wilson said at a press conference on Monday. “Our team have since been carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the woman, but we have so far been unable to do so.”

Wilson said forensic work continued, adding: “We’re carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and other enquiries as a matter of urgency, but of course the methodical nature of such work can mean it takes time.”

Officers believe the woman was in her 70s. She was described as white, about 1.57 metres (5ft 2in) tall, of small build, and with strawberry-blond hair. She was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.

“Missing people reports in Merseyside and elsewhere have been checked but, so far, these have not resulted in an identification,” Wilson said. “Sometimes people go missing without those close to them realising, through holidays being planned or simple misunderstandings, and so we may not have received a report of any concerns.

“While we do not want to worry people unnecessarily, it is vital that we follow every possible lead, both to rule people out and ultimately to identify the woman, notify her next of kin and apprehend the offender.”

Describing the murder as a “shocking crime”, Wilson said police were “doing all we can to identify the person or persons responsible and bring them to justice”.

Stanley Park separates the Anfield and Goodison Park football stadiums, which are respectively home to Liverpool FC and Everton Women.

Assistant chief constable Andy Ryan said he understood “how unnerving” the discovery and the heightened police presence would be for local people, adding: “This is the exact reason that we are so determined to get answers as soon as we possibly can.”

He described the park as “a very busy and popular green space, especially in the recent warm summer weeks”.

“It is visited by dog walkers and families, as well as people walking and exercising,” he said. “It is quite possible that one or more of these visitors may have seen something suspicious recently and not reported it at the time.”

“I want to reiterate Rachel’s appeal,” Ryan added. “If anyone recognises the description of this woman or you have any concerns whatsoever about someone you may know and haven’t seen or heard from recently, please tell us as a matter of urgency.”

Potential witnesses are urged to contact Merseyside police via social media or to call 101, quoting reference number 26000706383.

President Donald Trump will meet Tuesday with U.S. refiners and fuel distributors as his administration looks for ways to expand domestic refining capacity and bring down gasoline prices, according to a White House official.

The meeting will include Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, National Energy Dominance Council Executive Director Jarrod Agen and representatives from small, medium and large refiners and distributors, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the meeting hasn't been announced.

"President Trump is laser-focused on ensuring his successful energy dominance agenda translates into the most cost savings possible at the pump for consumers," White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement.

Rogers said Trump will discuss ways to increase refining capacity, expand energy production across the supply chain and lower prices for consumers.

The push comes as affordability, particularly gas prices, looms large over the midterms. Nearly half of Americans say the cost of living is their top voting issue, while 70% disapprove of Trump's handling of it, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll from early August.

The White House official said the administration is focused on "concrete, near-term steps" to add refining capacity, including as more Venezuelan crude flows to U.S. refineries.

Globally, refinery capacity shortages have helped keep fuel prices elevated even as crude prices have eased. Valero estimated earlier this month that wars in Iran and Ukraine had knocked about 5 million barrels per day of capacity offline.

Exxon CEO Darren Woods told CNBC's "Squawk Box" at the end of July that refining constraints had created a "disconnect" between crude and pump prices, meaning more oil supply may not immediately translate into cheaper gasoline.

Trump on Friday announced a deal with Venezuela giving the U.S. majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of oil reserves, part of a broader push to boost supply and lower gas prices as the Iran war disrupts global crude flows.

Gulf Coast refiners have benefited from increased Venezuelan crude supplies, giving them more oil to process.

Tuesday's meeting will also focus on whether lower costs are being passed through to consumers and on additional actions the administration could take to reduce prices at the pump, the official said.

Trump has previously pushed fuel retailers to lower prices directly. In July, he praised Freedom Fuel Network for selling gas at $3.47 a gallon and urged others to follow. But a fuel supplier over the weekend alleged that some of the discounted gasoline had been supplied through a distributor who failed to pay roughly $4 million in fuel invoices.

Freedom Fuel was not named as a defendant or accused of wrongdoing in a lawsuit filed earlier this month.

So far, Adventure Effects are limited to special types of legendary Pokémon — usually ones with unique forms. (Though... Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon really got shafted by being released before Adventure Effects were a thing, huh?) These also usually debut during a big event, like a yearly Go Fest, making them somewhat rare and valuable.

Below we list the various Adventure Effects in Pokémon Go, alongside what they do, and what you need to do to unlock them.

Complete list of Adventure Effects in Pokémon Go

Some Adventure Effects require you to have a specific form, whereas some others may require the Pokémon to know a specific move. Some effects even require both of those things, so make sure you're looking at what moves your Pokémon knows before you fuse them or change their forms, if you want their Adventure Effect.

You can also spend more Stardust, Mega Energy, and/or candy to extend the duration of the effects. Only one can be active at a time, though.
