You can now cuddle Helldivers 2's beloved SEAF troopers, though maybe don't do what I did and try it when a Crusher's standing next to you

Ever since they were introduced back in Helldivers 2's Heart of Democracy update when the Illuminate invaded Super Earth, the SEAF troopers have held a place in the heart of every Helldiver. These NPC soldiers stand basically no chance against the hordes of bugs, bots, and space aliens who besiege Super Earth's worlds, bristling with ever-more exotic implements of murder, but they do their best and that's what counts.

‘Don’t Say Good Luck’ Review: Sunny Sandler and Melanie Lynskey Give Genuine Soul to Netflix’s Mother-Daughter Heartbreaker

There’s a high probability that you’ve seen Sunny Sandler on screen before: Thanks to the patronage of her ceaselessly prolific dad, Adam, the 17-year-old has amassed 26 film credits to date. In “Don’t Say Good Luck,” however, you’ll actually notice her. As a teenager likewise stepping into the spotlight for the first time — and, in rather more bittersweet circumstances, facing the end of childhood — she’s the warmly gawky, thoroughly believable center of Julia Hart‘s sensitive, open-hearted theater-kid portrait. She’s matched beat for beat by Melanie Lynskey, no revelation but reliably affecting and emotionally generous as our heroine’s doting, ailing mother. Coming-of-age films with variations of these characters and dynamics come around pretty often; rather more unusual are those written and played with this degree of care and compassion.

Hardly a day goes by without someone saying, in reference to an edgy piece of pop culture, “They could never make that today.” It almost seems as if some people like saying that too much — as if they secretly approve of the fact. But in certain cases, there’s simply no denying the truth of it. If someone at Nickelodeon today, or the Disney Channel or the Cartoon Network, tried to program a series of animated shorts as violent and anarchic and demented and sadomasochistic as the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoons created and (mostly) directed by Chuck Jones, starting in 1949, that person might be called up on charges.
