Other individual achievement in animation winners are Disney+’s Eyes of Wakanda (“Into the Lion’s Den”) and Star Wars: Visions (“The Duel: Payback”) as well as Prime Video’s The Mighty Nein “Mote of Possibility.”

The Emmys also awarded outstanding innovation in emerging media programming to Meta Quest’s virtual reality experience Crafting Crimes from developer TARGO. There was no Emmy awarded in the category of outstanding motion design.

The juried awards will be presented during the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, set for Sept. 5 and 6, from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live.

Jury category submissions are screened by a panel of professionals in the relevant peer group (animation, costume design, emerging media programming and motion and title design) with the possibility of one, more than one or none of the entries winning Emmys.

After the Creative Arts Emmys, where the majority of the Emmy trophies are handed out, the Emmys telecast is set for Monday, Sept. 14, live on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT from the Peacock Theater. Mariska Hargitay is hosting the NBC ceremony.

Going into 78th annual Emmys, with voting for the winners running from Aug. 17-26, The Pitt leads this year’s nominees with 25 nods, followed by Hacks with 24 nominations, a record for a comedy series, and Widow’s Bay with 19 nods, leading all new shows.

On Tuesday, Kim Doster, the communications director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa), said the federal agency was withdrawing its support for the Arctic Report Card, which has provided environmental updates on the region to scientists and the public since 2006.

Without explaining why the government stopped its support, Doster told the New York Times: “Coordination of the 2026 Arctic Report Card will not be facilitated through NOAA … All data historically contributed by NOAA to the product will continue to be collected and will remain publicly available.”

Doster told the outlet that other Naa programs would continue to support research in the region that contributes to “national security, weather prediction, safety of navigation and the economic vitality of coastal communities”.

The Guardian has approached Noaa for additional comment.

Over the last 20 years, the peer-reviewed report has tracked crucial changes across the Arctic’s atmosphere, oceans, cryosphere and tundra. The climate crisis has made the Arctic the world’s fastest-warming region. In recent years, the region has experienced severe sea ice decline, carbon sink reversals, as well as ecosystem upheavals.

In the 2025 Arctic Report Card, scientists found that surface temperatures across the Arctic from October 2024 through September 2025 were the warmest recorded since 1900. It also found that in March 2025, Arctic winter sea ice reached the lowest annual maximum extent in the 47-year satellite record.

Meanwhile, on land, the report noted that ongoing glacier loss contributes to steadily rising global sea levels, threatening Arctic communities’ water supplies, driving destructive floods, as well as increasing landslide and tsunami hazards.

It also found that in more than 200 Arctic Alaska watersheds – large land areas where rain and melted snow drain northward into the Arctic Ocean – iron and other elements released by thawing permafrost have turned rivers and streams orange in the last 10 years. The “rusting rivers” have in turn increased acidity while elevated levels of toxic metals have degraded water quality, in turn affecting aquatic habits, rural drinking water supplies and subsistence fishing.

Speaking to the Guardian, Rick Thoman, the lead editor for this year’s report, said: “We are scrambling to pull the pieces together. I am optimistic that we can find a path forward for 2027 and beyond. Given the late date, whether we can pull it together for 2026 is an open question, but we’re trying to make it happen.”

Meanwhile, Twila Moon, one of the report’s editors and scientist at the Colorado-based National Snow and Ice Data Center, told the Guardian: “The US is an Arctic nation. It’s not just a distant place. It’s also our national place. So many of the changes there have impacts that reach down into our mid-latitudes, even further south.”

Moon added: “Even if we’re able to move the Arctic Report Card forward in a way that brings information to people, there’s still a real loss in this not being a US federal effort. That’s a real stepping back of US leadership in the science arena, in the environmental intelligence arena, and that kind of has a whole other flavor of harm as well.”

The funding cancellation is the Trump administration’s latest move to impede government-led studies on the climate crisis and its global effects.

Since retaking office last January, the Trump administration has stripped away support for scientific research that mentions “climate”, dismantled a key climate research center in Colorado which Governor Jared Polis warned would put “public safety at risk”, attempted to scrap a $368m crucial deep-sea observation system, as well as removing key climate change reports from government websites.

Other federally led environmental rollbacks include Noaa’s decision to stop tracking the costs of climate crisis-fueled disasters, as well as the dismissal of all contributors to the US government’s flagship report on climate crisis preparedness. %!s()

Shortly after Myanmar’s military seized power in 2021, triggering mass protests that spiralled into a civil war, Kyaw Zwar Minn was locked out of the embassy for declaring his loyalty to the deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

On Wednesday he appeared in a London court charged with trespassing at a diplomatic residence between May 2021 and November 2024. Kyaw Zwar Minn, who still lives at the ambassador’s residence in north-west London, has pleaded not guilty.

The former ambassador argues that the current president, Min Aung Hlaing, the general who plunged Myanmar into conflict and economic chaos, is illegitimate and had no power to ask him to leave the property.

Min Aung Hlaing’s pro-military party won a landslide victory in elections earlier this year that have been widely condemned as a sham. Min Aung Hlaing is wanted by the international criminal court for crimes against humanity against the Muslim Rohingya minority.

Kyaw Zwar Minn’s lawyer, David Perry, told the court: “The military authorities could not lawfully terminate his licence at the address. Nor could they legitimately use the property.”

Prosecutors said Myanmar’s authorities instructed the former ambassador to “hand over state-owned properties” in April 2021, and that the Foreign Office also told him to leave the residence, but he did not comply.

They argue that his view of the Myanmar government – which is not formally recognised by most democratic countries, including Britain – does not provide a defence.

“Having been granted permission to reside at Myanmar House as the ambassador, his refusal to vacate the diplomatic premises after he was removed from that position means that he is guilty of the offence of diplomatic trespass,” the prosecutor Louise Oakley told the court.

Kyaw Zwar Minn previously told the Guardian he spent a night in his car outside the embassy in April 2021 after his then deputy, Chit Win, and a military attache, Soe Aung, locked him out of the building on the regime’s orders.

He said at the time that he no longer felt safe at the north London residence and had contacted the police after former staff delivered a letter ordering him to move. Friends and relatives in Myanmar had been forced into hiding fearing reprisals as a result of his stance, he said.

The 68-year-old became a diplomat under Aung San Suu Kyi after a long career in the army and has called the “Rohingya issue” very important. Before his removal as ambassador, he had been told by a source in Myanmar’s foreign ministry that his staff were spying on him.

He anticipated in 2021 that the crisis would lead to civil war. “You can see the military government is not going to step back,” he said. “More people will die and the economy is going to collapse. Then anything can happen in our country.”

The court case comes as the war enters its sixth year. More than 100,000 people have been killed and more than 5 million displaced, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

Aung San Suu Kyi, now 81, has been detained on a range charges since the military took power. She was previously held under house arrest for 15 years under a past junta, and was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1991. After her election as state counsellor in 2015, she became a pariah for leading a regime that excused a genocide, jailed journalists and locked up critics. %!s()

Judge Tanya Jones Bosier ordered the Kennedy Center on Monday to pay $252,479.70 in legal fees and costs to attorneys for musician Chuck Redd within 45 days.

The Kennedy Center had sued Redd after he canceled a Christmas Eve concert at the venue. In June, the judge dismissed the Kennedy Center’s lawsuit and ruled in Redd’s favor under the district’s anti-Slapp statute, which is designed to protect people from lawsuits seeking to silence protected speech. Redd then requested that the court make the Kennedy Center reimburse him for the legal costs he incurred defending himself.

A Kennedy Center spokesperson said the organization intended to appeal.

When Redd canceled last year, the Trump-appointed Kennedy Center president, Richard Grenell, called the musician’s decision to pull out a “political stunt”, threatening to sue for $1m in damages.

Redd’s decision to cancel came after the Kennedy Center’s Trump-controlled board voted to rename the institution “The Donald J Trump and The John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” Trump’s name was then added to the building’s facade and the center’s digital materials.

But a federal judge ruled in May that the board did not have the authority to rename the Kennedy Center and ordered the Trump references removed from the building and the center’s official communications. The administration is also blocked from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations that had been planned to start in July and last for two years. US district judge Christopher Cooper requested detailed documentation about how the closure would affect the Kennedy Center.

Renovations at the Kennedy Center could include polishing its Carrara marble facade, remodeling its grand halls and theaters, and moving some marquee events offsite over the next few years, according to a document of the planned renovations obtained by Axios on Wednesday. %!s()
