Gold dropped 4% to the lowest since the first week of August, as the 10-year yield climbed to 5.3% and the 30-year yield touched 5.4%. High-yield corporate bonds extended a five-day rout to the lowest since April 2025, according to the iShares iBoxx High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG).

Judging by options flows on Monday, traders think gold has the potential to bounce back. For high-yield bonds, they're betting things could get worse.

About twice as many calls traded versus puts in the SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), with more than 68,000 calls likely bought, compared to under 32,000 puts, Cboe LiveVol data show. Net trade sentiment was bullish by almost $2.8 million with an imbalance of 105,000 "deltas" leaning bullish, according to Barchart analysis.

While traders sold about as many calls as they bought in GLD, the biggest single trade of the day was a seller of 2,000 375-strike puts expiring in January 2028 worth $5.9 million. The person may have been closing out a bearish position or placing a bet the precious metal finds a floor around $375. GLD traded in roughly a 10-point range between 370 and 380 for much of this summer. When investors sell puts, they are making a bet that a security will stay above that puts strike price. In exchange for taking that risk, they collect that put's premium.

Both gold and high-yield bonds are trading with strong negative correlations to the 10-year yield – GLD's 10-day correlation is negative 0.8, HYG's is -0.99, but options trading in the high-yield HYG ETF was more lopsidedly bearish.

Trading volume in HYG options was more than 2.5 times the 30-day average Monday, with more than 2.5 times as many puts trading as calls and 52,000 puts likely bought, compared to just over 15,000 calls, Cboe LiveVol data show.

About $35 million of options premium was exchanged, with $30 million of it tied to calls, SpotGamma data show. Eleven of the top 12 contracts by dollar-amount bought were puts; ranked by volume, puts accounted for 8 of the 10 most-popular contracts. The most common contract to purchase was the 78-strike put expiring Nov. 20.

"Sentiment in high-yield bonds has been very complacent and the risk of defaults is probably much higher than the market anticipates," Nigam Arora, founder of The Arora Report, said by phone. "A lot of these are on variable rates and debt is coming due next year. People have liked them for yield but the spread hasn't been great and I the risk-reward hasn't been favorable. I wouldn't touch them." %!s()

In the US, the world’s second-largest-emitting country, its leader continues to deny climate realities and unravel climate policies. Big Tech is backpedaling on its climate ambitions, as companies race to build massive AI data centers.

And all this comes amid yet another season of shattered heat records, raging wildfires, and deadly floods.

It can be tempting to give in to climate doom and defeatism. But despite the headwinds, the world has still made incredible progress. Companies are developing and deploying renewables, batteries, and EVs; inventing cleaner means of producing industrial goods; and devising ways to keep cities and people safe even in the face of more extreme weather conditions.

Those advances will only accelerate as costs decline and people demand greater climate action, as well as all the economic and health benefits that come with it.

Recognizing our ability to make such progress is why MIT Technology Review began publishing our annual list of Climate Tech Companies to Watch three years ago.

Once a year the editors and writers use their deep industry knowledge and academic sources to compile a long list of companies around the world that are transforming the way we generate energy, produce goods, move people and things, or mitigate rising climate dangers.

We then conduct several rounds of spirited newsroom debate to winnow that list down to 10 that we believe have done the most, or have the best chance, to make a real dent in emissions or improve public safety and health.

We’re happy to say we’ve finalized that list for 2026, and will publish it on October 6. You can sign up for The Download newsletter to be among the first to see it, or subscribe to receive full access to this year’s list. It features a mix of companies making strides in energy storage, nuclear power, transportation, and other areas, including ones that have figured out how to continue to make progress amid the regressive climate politics of the moment.

We hope you’ll enjoy the package and perhaps come away feeling a bit more hopeful that we can move fast enough to avoid the gravest dangers of climate change, and build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world. %!s()

With The Witcher 3 Remastered going live today, CD Projekt Red has shared what you can expect to run with every major CPU and GPU brand, with Low graphics at 30 fps requiring a relatively meagre Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 / AMD Radeon RX 550 XT / Intel Arc A580, plus an Intel Core i5 8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600.

However, for path tracing, you will need an Intel Core i9 13900K or AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080. To get the estimated 60 fps at 4K, you will have to not only run DLSS, but you will need to use frame generation. That does mean it should fare better at 1440p or 1080p. CD Projekt Red does not specify which level of upscaling (though it says it's on Auto, whatever that means) or what level of frame generation is present for this setting.

As we saw in our investigation of Pragmata's path tracing earlier this year, we are expecting The Witcher 3 Remastered's path tracing to offer better shadows and highlights to generally make the world feel more 'real'. However, whether or not it's worth the hit to performance will be dependent on your tastes (and your rig). I'm not personally sold on even ray tracing's benefits all of the time, so it would be a tough sell for me, even if I had a rig good enough to run it.

Also notably, the RX 9070 XT isn't listed as an option for this top-tier graphics mode. That's most likely because this GPU struggles more than equivalent Nvidia ones to deal with path tracing, and at any rate it's less powerful in general than the RTX 5080 listed.

At the higher end, the 24 GB memory requirement may be tough for some rigs, what with the memory crisis continuing to rage. Still, the bottom end of this table isn't too bad. The GTX 1660 was a mid-range graphics card that launched seven years ago. That does mean that your rig you played the original The Witcher 3 on at launch won't be able to run the new remaster even on low settings, in case you were wondering.

But if you own the original game, you will be able to play the new remaster for free, and the Complete Edition is half off if you somehow don't already have it. With a new expansion out next year, it might finally be time for that replay.

James is a more recent PC gaming convert, often admiring graphics cards, cases, and motherboards from afar. It was not until 2019, after just finishing a degree in law and media, that they decided to throw out the last few years of education, build their PC, and start writing about gaming instead. In that time, he has covered the latest doodads, contraptions, and gismos, and loved every second of it. Hey, it’s better than writing case briefs. %!s()

In white and black options (alas no yellow this time around, perhaps not professional enough?) the $399 Nothing Headphone 1 Pro comes with a hardcase that surrounds the headphone cups, and you can tote them around by the headband. The case seems to be made of glossy plastic that screams that late-90s, early-00s tech aesthetic that Nothing's design team draws inspiration from.

The Headphone 1 Pro includes a tiny switch to cut off the equalizer and spatial audio for studio professionals, so that they can hear what they're mixing more accurately. I think this is the first time headphones have had this feature, and it goes against the trend of adding equalizers, which Apple did with the AirPods Pro in iOS 27. This flat equalizer came from working with Metropolis Studios, a London-based mastering studio. I'm still waiting to listen to a pair of the new headphones, but I'm intrigued to hear how I react to a flat EQ . Normally, I like a lot of bass and most of us have our own audio preferences to some extent, so I wonder if this feature is for a niche group of listeners.

The Headphone 1 Pro tries to cover other pro features with support for LDAC, 24-bit high-res audio and wireless lossless connections. It also comes with a trio of drivers aimed at bass, vocal and instrumental ranges. The new headphones even support Auracast as both transmitter and receiver if connected to the companion app.

Rounding out the specs, the Headphone 1 Pro is IP52 rated and the company promises up to 32 hours with ANC on and 68 hours with noise cancellation off. Nothing says its new headphones feature its best ANC yet, with 10 mics picking up environmental noise, while a new silicone baffle wall should create a better physical sound barrier.

Nothing

They should be more comfortable than its predecessors too. Compared to Headphone 1, the ear cushions are apparently 50 percent softer and adapt better to glasses. The headband is also 10 percent wider.

The Headphone (1) Pro are available to buy now at Nothing's own site, Amazon and at Best Buy stores across the US. Nothing also revealed another global brand ambassador, V from BTS, to mark the occasion. What happened to Charli XCX? Is she still on that ambassador gravy train? I hope so. %!s()

Formerly with the Chelsea academy, Hopcroft also previously played for Birmingham City and London City Lionesses.
