However, the teenager was out for 22 from 39 balls versus Durham at Emirates Old Trafford - one of four wickets taken by Afghan leg-spinner Shafiqullah Ghafari - as Lancashire were bundled out for 187 chasing 350 for victory.

Quiet day for Stokes but Durham hammer Lancashire

Former England captain Stokes took one wicket, that of opening batter Harry Singh for 11, as he returned figures of 1-32 from four overs after earlier hitting one six in a knock of 11 from nine balls in Durham's 349-8 in Manchester.

Durham - who will now face Middlesex in a semi-final at Radlett on Sunday - saw David Bedingham strike 104 from 89 balls and Ollie Robinson make 76 from 57 deliveries.

The pair shared a fourth-wicket stand of 149 before Robinson's dismissal brought Stokes to the crease.

In reply, only 17-year-old Joe Moores (51 off 42), who stitched a 59-run stand with Flintoff, made a score of note.

Notts advance after horror start to run chase

In the other quarter-final, Notts Outlaws recovered from 1-3 inside three overs to complete a chase of 274 against Yorkshire by three wickets with eight balls to spare in York.

Notts' reward is a semi-final away to fellow Midlanders Leicestershire Foxes on Sunday.

Verreynne put on 54 with George Munsey (25 off 28) for the fourth wicket and then 154 with Haynes, although Verreynne's dismissal in the 41st over with 65 runs needed triggered a wobble of three wickets for four runs as Farhan Ahmed (2) and Olly Stone (0) fell to Coad, leaving Notts tottering on 213-7.

Haynes, though, found excellent support in No 9 Dillon Pennington (22no off 18), who cuffed the winning four having earlier taken 4-49 with his seam bowling, including Yorkshire top-scorer Will Bennison (91), in the hosts' 273-9.

The figures were released on Thursday as part of the AFL-CIO’s annual Paywatch report, which tracks the growing gulf in wages.

The labour federation warned that the divide in pay risks having broader effects for the global marketplace. If CEOs are focused on increasing their paycheques, the AFL-CIO warned that they may be less concerned about the stability of their companies — or of the economy overall.

“Excessive CEO compensation contributes to growing economic inequality,” the AFL-CIO wrote. “It creates the risk that CEOs will make short-term decisions to maximize their pay, even if it hurts the company’s long-term health.”

In determining the executive-to-worker pay ratio, the AFL-CIO explained it had to exclude one outlier: the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.

In 2025, Musk made $158bn as CEO of the electric vehicle company Tesla — 2.5 million times more than the company’s average employee. His salary even dwarfed the company’s revenue for the year, which was $94bn.

That same year, the carmaker reported a 3 percent decline in revenue. Sales dropped by roughly 9 percent, as some consumers boycotted the company over Musk’s participation in President Donald Trump’s second administration.

Tesla also faced 11 vehicle recalls last year, accounting for 745,000 of its cars.

For the first half of 2025, Musk served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an office Trump established to oversee cuts to the federal workforce and spending.

He also oversees multiple business interests beyond Tesla, including the social media platform X and the rocket company SpaceX.

In June, the initial public offering (IPO) for SpaceX’s stock briefly ballooned Musk’s net worth, and he was listed for a short time as the world’s first trillionaire.

Including Musk, on average, the pay for a chief executive in an S&P 500 company jumped 1,700 percent last year to reach $3.1bn.

Excluding Musk, the increase was slightly more modest. Whereas in 2024 the average CEO pay was roughly $19m, in 2025 the figure increased by 21 percent to $22.8m.

That sum is nearly double the average compensation package for chief executives a decade ago.

Uneven distribution across industries

Different industries, however, saw varying ratios in executive-to-worker income.

The biggest pay disparity was in the manufacturing sector, with the average CEO making $696m and the average worker in the industry making slightly more than $93,000.

That amounted to a more-than-11,000 percent difference in their salaries. Tesla marks the biggest disparity in the sector, helping to drive the pay ratio higher.

The industry with the second-highest pay ratio was the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, where executives make an average of $24.6m, compared to an average of around $25,000 for median workers. The difference was a ratio of 1,057 to one.

One of the most stark examples of a pay divide was the coffee chain Starbucks, where the average worker made $17,279 — only $1,629 higher than the federal poverty line in 2025.

With CEO Brian Niccol earning north of $30m last year, experts estimate the pay ratio in the company is 1,794 to one.

The AFL-CIO’s report also showed that Amazon, Dollar Tree, FedEx, McDonald’s and Walmart workers are the largest recipients of social assistance programmes.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy made 51 times more than the company’s average employee, while McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski made 1,082 times more than the average worker at the Chicago, Illinois-based fast-food giant.

Trump posts surge in earnings

Thursday’s report also examined Trump’s income during the first year of his second term in office.

Trump’s campaigns for public office have largely hinged on his record as a businessman, and he has pitched himself to voters as uniquely qualified to address the country’s economic needs.

But critics have accused him of profiting from the presidency, whether through trademarks or policies favourable to his business interests, including cryptocurrency.

The AFL-CIO report found that Trump’s income surged 254 percent last year, over what he made in 2024, before his return to the White House.

The $2.2bn worth of income he earned in 2025 stemmed largely from World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s cryptocurrency venture, and the sale of meme coins.

Those earnings are roughly 43,154 times what the median US worker made last year, according to the AFL-CIO. Approximately 37 percent of US adults cannot cover a $400 emergency expense.

This comes as US consumer sentiment slipped 8 percent, with consumers growing more wary of business conditions and the strength of their personal finances, according to a report from the University of Michigan released on Friday.

The labour market is also experiencing a downturn, with the US economy shedding 23,000 jobs in July, according to a monthly report from the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The Conference Board, a nonprofit think tank focused on the economy, also found last month that confidence in the state of the US economy is trending downward for the third consecutive month. %!s()

Mangione's lawyers immediately afterward filed a motion in New York state court saying that charges of murder and multiple firearms counts against the Ivy League graduate in that court for Thompson's slaying should be tossed out under the state's double jeopardy law because of his federal plea.

Mangione, 28, said Friday in Manhattan U.S. District Court that he traveled to New York with the intention of killing Thompson after reaching out to UnitedHealthcare and pretending to be an investor ahead of a company conference at a Manhattan hotel.

"I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died," Mangione said, according to MS NOW. "I knew what I was doing was illegal."

Thompson's company, which is a division of UnitedHealth Group, is the largest health insurer in the United States. Thompson was gunned down on the sidewalk outside the Hilton Hotel on Dec. 4, 2024.

Mangione, a 2020 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, was apprehended by local police five days later in a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after someone recognized him from a surveillance photo.

Mangione, who told District Court Judge Margaret Garnett that he was motivated after suffering years of pain from a broken back, faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald said he will seek a sentence of life for the charges of interstate stalking resulting in Thompson's death, and use of electronic communications to stalk the 50-year-old CEO.

McDonald and Amanda Houle, chief of the office's Criminal Division, were sitting in the front row of court next to Thompson's widow and family during Friday's plea hearing, MS NOW reported. United Healthcare executives sat in the row behind them.

"Today's guilty plea marks an important step toward justice for Brian and for our family," Thompson's family said in a statement. "While nothing will ease the pain of losing him, we are grateful that the federal justice system has held the person responsible for this heinous act accountable."

"Now we look to the court to ensure that sentencing reflects the severity of this crime," the family said. "We remain mindful that additional proceedings in New York and Pennsylvania are still to come, and we will continue to seek the justice Brian deserves."

Mangione's plea came weeks before jury selection is scheduled to start for his Manhattan Supreme Court trial on a charge of murdering Thompson.

It is not clear if that trial will begin on Sept. 8 given defense attorneys' new motion asking a judge to toss the state charges because of Friday's plea in federal court.

Under New York's double jeopardy law, a person cannot be separately prosecuted for offenses based upon the same criminal act, a state appeals court has held.

"Despite this being a single isolated event, Mr. Mangione has been unfairly treated since the outset in every way," his lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, told reporters after the plea hearing.

"He's been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offense in New York," Friedman Agnifilo said.

"As Luigi explained in court today, he endured years of severe, debilitating pain following a broken back while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems," she said. "Like the thousands of people who have reached out since this tragedy to share their own experiences, he believed that system had failed him and destroyed his life."

A spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office is prosecuting Mangione in state court, said in a statement the office would fight the effort to dismiss the case.

"Since December 2024, the Manhattan D.A.'s Office has been tirelessly preparing to pursue a trial conviction in New York State Supreme Court for the alleged cold-blooded murder of Brian Thompson," the spokeswoman said.

"We are encouraged that Mr. Thompson's family received a measure of accountability today.  While federal sentencing is pending, we are prepared to litigate the defense motions," the spokeswoman said. "The Manhattan D.A.'s Office remains committed to seeking justice for Mr. Thompson and his family."

UnitedHealth Group, in a statement after the plea hearing, said, "Brian Thompson's life was cut short by an act of violence that devastated everyone who knew and loved him."

"We are grateful to law enforcement for bringing Brian's murderer to justice, and our thoughts remain with Brian's family and loved ones during this difficult time," the company said. %!s()

Actors Ted Danson and Jean Smart, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, documentary pioneer Sheila Nevins and the late broadcast journalist Ed Bradley made up the 2026 class, bringing together careers that have transformed television.

For Parker and Stone, the honor arrived on a fitting anniversary. South Park premiered exactly 29 years earlier, on Aug. 13, 1997. Since its debut, the Comedy Central juggernaut has become one of television’s longest-running animated series, earning five Emmys while establishing Parker and Stone as two of the most fearless satirists. The pair, who also created the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, have served as writers, producers, directors and lead voice actors on the series.

Stone credited the show’s longevity in part to deadlines. “You wouldn’t get anything done without a deadline,” he said. Meanwhile, Parker joked that he turned to AI for help with his acceptance speech. “No matter how hard I tried, ChatGPT just couldn’t seem to get it right,” he said before launching into a bit built around an AI generated speech. He ended on a more earnest note about the show’s commitment to skewering all sides. “We can’t stop laughing at ourselves, at each other,” Parker said, “because when any one group starts taking itself too seriously, really, really bad shit happens.”

Smart’s induction honored one of television’s most versatile performers. She first broke through as Charlene Frazier on the 80’s sitcom Designing Women before moving between comedy and drama in Frasier, 24, Samantha Who?, Fargo, Watchmen and Mare of Easttown. Her career has found another act in HBO’s Hacks, where her performance as veteran comedian Deborah Vance has earned her multiple Emmy wins.

Calling the induction “an amazing and truly unexpected honor,” Smart said being included among her fellow inductees was “a gift of a lifetime.” She also poked fun at her relationship with celebrity, recalling a recent elevator encounter in which a stranger asked, “Are you famous?” “Well, apparently not,” Smart recalled as the room burst into laughter.

One of the evening’s most poignant tributes belonged to Bradley, the groundbreaking CBS News journalist who died in 2006 after 25 years at 60 Minutes and reporting on more than 500 stories. Fellow correspondent Lesley Stahl remembered her longtime colleague as a journalist who always “searched for the human story” and cared deeply about people without power. Bradley’s widow, Patricia Blanchet, accepted the honor and reflected on his significance as one of the few Black journalists of his era with such broad national visibility. Bradley’s refusal to be defined solely by race or restricted to the “race beat,” she said, “was and remains a radical act.”

Blanchet also invoked her husband’s legacy while addressing current threats to journalism. “Let us pick up Ed’s baton and speak truth to power,” she urged. “Let us walk his walk and better safeguard all that is at risk that we hold so dear in our sacred democracy.”

Nevins, who could not attend after contracting COVID and pneumonia, delivered a taped acceptance speech. Actress and longtime friend Lily Tomlin introduced the longtime HBO documentary president, crediting her with making documentaries “must-see TV” and championing filmmakers who tackled subjects others avoided.

Jerry Seinfeld inducted Sarandos with a speech that doubled as a tribute to the Netflix co-CEO and a not-so-subtle campaign for his own Hall of Fame induction. “It’s hard for me to believe that I am not the one receiving this very special honor tonight,” Seinfeld joked, before comparing their résumés for the benefit of the Hall of Fame nominating committee.

“To give you some idea how fond I am of Ted, I flew from New York to do this, the longest flight I have ever done for a two-minute non-paying gig in my 50-year comedy career,” he said, before going on to emphasize, “50, Academy, 50!” But beneath the humor was genuine admiration for the executive whose tenure at Netflix helped transform Hollywood’s traditional television model.

Under Sarandos’ content leadership, the streamer moved aggressively into original programming with shows including House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, The Crown and Stranger Things, while helping popularize binge-watching and the release of full seasons at once. “To a lot of us in the industry, it’s not Netflix, it’s Tedflix,” Seinfeld said, calling Sarandos “not only the most respected, but also the most loved industry executive I have ever seen in my career.”

In his speech, Sarandos reflected on Netflix’s impact on the industry, tracing his instincts back to his teenage years working in a video store and discovering how much he enjoyed connecting audiences with stories. “Netflix put audiences in control and let you watch anything anytime you wanted,” Sarandos said. “It kind of changed the way we watch TV, but it also changed the way we create TV.” But Sarandos argued that technology hasn’t changed television’s fundamental appeal. “Television is the best way to tell great stories,” he said. “The relationship we have with people on TV is intimate.”

The final honor of the night went to Danson, whose induction capped a television career spanning more than four decades. His portrayal of Sam Malone on Cheers made him a defining sitcom star of the 1980s and ’90s, but he continued reinventing himself through Becker, Damages, CSI, Fargo, The Good Place and, most recently, Netflix’s A Man on the Inside.

Introduced by his wife, Oscar-winning actress Mary Steenburgen, Danson recalled discovering acting while a college student at Stanford. “The light bulb had turned on,” he said. “I was an actor, and all of my life made sense all of a sudden.” Decades later, his affection for television production and Hollywood appeared undiminished. “Thank you so much for everything we’re all doing to make sure that Hollywood stays healthy and vital,” he said. “It’s magic. We shouldn’t let our magic slide.” %!s()

Limited to just 1,963 units to signify the year the company was founded, the Revuelto SV's 9,500-rpm V12 and trio of electric motors pump out 1,050 hp and 1,051 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's enough power to send this 3,907-pound (dry weight) beast from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.3 seconds, and it'll go on to a top speed over 217 mph. That makes it, as Lamborghini claims, the fastest and most powerful production vehicle it has ever built.

The design

The Revuelto SV doesn't just up the power over the standard car. Lamborghini also set about making its looks even more eye-catching, with upped aerodynamics. Up front, the vertical "Omega" design is widened to give the Revuelto SV an even wider and dramatic stance than it already had. Additionally, the front splitter and underbody are retuned for better downforce and airflow — as are the wheel wells that now better direct air to the side coolers. Out back, there's a bigger diffuser with red accent lines and a fixed functional wing meant to balance out the aerodynamics of the car. That all adds up to the SV having 80% more downforce than the standard car, and 10% more than the Aventador SVJ.

Lamborghini also gave the SV special paint finishes, black accents and a redesigned SV logo on the hood and rear to let everybody know this is no ordinary Revuelto. Driving that point home even further are the center-lock wheels at all four corners with hexagonal structures, with 20s up front and 21s out back. Behind those wheels at the front are a set of 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic brakes that can bring the SV to a dead stop from 124 mph in just 361 feet. The rears have their own nearly-as-massive 16.1-inch brakes.

The thrill

To make the experience even gnarlier, Lamborghini added in a new drive mode called Pilota that is meant to give the driver an "even more engaging and customizable track driving experience." Lamborghini wants its drivers to feel like a fighter-jet pilot on the inside, a common theme dating back to the Reventón of the mid-2000s. Pilota set up around a five-stage traction control system that can adapt to different track and tire wear conditions, while stability control keeps things balanced and on the straight and narrow.

The Revuelto SV's interior surrounds its driver with more carbon fiber than any Revuelto to come before it, including on the door panels and the seats.Monocoque carbon-fiber race seats are optional and even more extreme. There are, of course, plenty of regular leather options to choose from as well to make things a bit more civilized. You also get Revuelto SV-specific graphics and animations in the gauge cluster and infotainment screen to heighten the experience just that little bit further.

The speed

There's more. It now has manually adjustable dampers, meant to make the car even edgier. Lambo says lateral grip is up 10%, and agility has increased 17%, though I'm not entirely sure how that's quantifiable. Leave it to the Italians, I suppose. The car also wears unique Bridgestone Potenza Race R tires.

All of this has added up to the Revuelto SV being the fastest car to ever set an official lap around the Hockenheimring. Lamborghini factory driver Marco Mapelli managed to hustle the monster around the German racetrack in just 1:41.6, and that's mighty quick when you consider the ultra-wild Mercedes-AMG One managed the same lap in a 1:38.5.

If this all sounds like your type of jam, then you better get your checkbook out and crack your knuckles. Lamborghini hasn't said how much the Revuelto SV will cost just yet, but judging by the fact that the standard Revuelto starts at over $600,000, this one isn't going to be cheaper. Of course, the type of person who springs for an SV Lamborghini isn't worried about such things. Money is an issue for us commoners. %!s()
