The Aoostar is really small, measuring 5" x 5" x 2.4", roughly the same size as a Mac Mini. But Fifa made the shock decision to suspend the automatic one-match ban for 12 months, leading to widespread criticism, including from Uefa, Belgium and England boss Thomas Tuchel.

Fifa's decision frees US forward Balogun, who has scored three goals at this summer's tournament, to be selected for the match in Seattle, which kicks off at 17:00 local time (01:00 BST on Tuesday).

The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) says it is "astonished" by the move and has told the United States Soccer Federation it "contests the eligibility" of Balogun playing in the tie after its appeal against the decision was dismissed.

Trump said football's world governing body "made the right decision", adding it would have left a "big stain" on the tournament had the ban been implemented.

Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump said he had asked Fifa to review the decision because he "didn't think it was a foul".

He confirmed he had spoken to Fifa president Gianni Infantino but said "all" he did was ask for a review and added he did not tell the Swiss he had to suspend Balogun's ban.

Trump added: "I think it [the suspension] would have left a big stain. I can't tell them what to do. I don't believe they made the decision; I believe it was the commission that made the decision. And it was the right decision."

However, European football governing body Uefa said it left the integrity of football at stake.

Trump also said referee Raphael Claus' decision to send off Balogun was "horrible" and called the Brazilian "a little bit suspect".

In response, the Brazilian football conferdation (CBF) defended Claus' integrity, stating: "There is nothing in his record that discredits him or gives grounds for any suspicion. He is an exemplary professional."

In a statement on X, Infantino said that on receiving a call from Trump, he told the US President there was "an ongoing legal process involving Fifa's independent judicial bodies and that the case would be decided in due course by the competent bodies".

The Fifa appeal committee deemed Belgium are not an interested party as they were not involved in the original decision and are merely the United States' next opponents.

"The request was rendered inadmissible on the grounds that the Belgian FA is not a party to the proceedings and, as such, has no standing to appeal the decision," said Fifa in a statement.

This means Balogun will be free to play against Belgium because there is no party who would appeal against the decision.

The RBFA said it has "still not received any grounds" for the Fifa appeal committee rejecting its appeal and is still awaiting information requested, including the "motivation [for] declaring the player eligible as well as the referee's report".

The RBFA added this is a "breach" of Fifa regulations.

When asked by BBC Sport about Trump's comments and his view on Claus, Fifa said the official was "one of the world's leading professional referees" who has "consistently demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism and integrity".

Fifa's chief refereeing officer and chairman of the referees committee, Pierluigi Collina, said: "Raphael Claus is refereeing at his second Fifa World Cup having been with us in Qatar in 2022. He is an experienced and highly respected referee and we maintain full confidence in him as a trusted match official."

Infantino later stated Fifa's judicial bodies were "independent" and rulings "must always be respected".

He added: "I read the decisions of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee when they are issued. Sometimes I am surprised by them. Sometimes I agree with them, and sometimes I disagree.

"What I always do, however, is respect those decisions and the autonomy of the bodies that make them. Whether we personally like a decision or not is irrelevant.

"Respect for independent institutions and the rule of law is what protects the integrity of our competitions and the credibility of Fifa at all times."

In raising its concerns, the RBFA said: "Regardless of the sporting outcome of this match, the RBFA is deeply concerned by the course of events and will continue to fight in the coming hours, days and months in defence of the fundamental principles of ethics, fair competition, and the interests of football as a whole."

England head coach Thomas Tuchel said the ruling set a dangerous precedent.

Tuchel had defender Jarell Quansah sent off in a dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico.

"Where to draw the line is the question that I ask," he said. "I have no answer to that.

"Do we appeal if a yellow card is not a yellow card? Do we think it is not a red card or who thinks it? Where does this start and where does this end? It's my question. I don't have an answer."

Uefa said intervening to effectively cancel a suspension at a tournament "crossed a red line".

Of the 189 other red cards at the World Cup, only once has a player escaped a suspension.

That was Brazil's Garrincha in 1962 - before automatic bans were in place, and the failure to impose a sanction was shrouded in allegations of political interference.

Fifa cited article 27 of its disciplinary code, which gives authority to partially suspended disciplinary measures, in announcing Balogun's one-match ban would be suspended for a probationary period of one year.

In an 871-word statement released later on Monday, Fifa again outlined the process in which article 27 can be used, but gave no further reasoning behind the specific decision to suspend Balogun's one-match ban.

The Swiss Football Association, whose side face Colombia in the last 16 on Tuesday, called the decision "incomprehensible", adding it "raises ‌questions and creates ⁠uncertainty, particularly regarding the authority of referees' decisions, especially when the video assistant referee (VAR) is involved". %!s()

Given 16.3 million new cars were delivered in 2025, that's less than 100,000 convertibles per year, and when you factor in that there are way more people to sell cars to today compared to 1959, that number should really be higher. Why isn't it, though? There are multiple converging theories, but to boil it down, regulatory changes in the '70s knocked convertibles off the perch they sat on in the '50s and '60s, while modern economics and tastes buried them even further as viable choices for regular drivers.

Impending regulatory headaches of the '70s

Back in the '70s, the federal government proposed — not passed, merely proposed — new rollover safety standards that would subject convertibles to the same roof-strength tests as regular cars. If passed, this would make convertible development financially difficult, and some point to this as the moment that scared the likes of Ford and GM out of the drop-top game. 

It's entirely believable that impending regulatory headaches had at least something to do with the convertible's downfall, but Hemmings points out that convertible sales were already declining a few years before the safety debacle. Instead, they frame the introduction of air conditioning and sunroofs as the things that made a foldaway top unnecessary for a lot of buyers, the argument being that back then, a convertible top was a climate control device as much as it was a novelty. Either way, the '70s oil crisis hit right after this to siphon out any remaining interest America had in building or buying convertible cars. People needed cars that were smaller, lighter, and socially less flashy. In other words, everything a convertible at the time was not.

Convertibles are usually expensive

The idea of the budget convertible did make a comeback in the '90s and early '00s in the form of drop-top versions of cars like the Geo Metro, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and the Toyota Camry. Remember the Chrysler LeBaron? Of course, you do. But by the time 2008 rolled around, they were a dying breed once again, and economics was largely the cause.

Throughout the next two decades, cars got hella expensive — the average new-car transaction price today is almost $50,000. On the master list of all convertibles still for sale in America, the only ones that can be considered "affordable" are basically the Ford Mustang, Mazda MX-5, Mini Cooper, and Chevy Corvette if we stretch it — everything else is luxury, if not a supercar. At the same time, wages haven't kept up with inflation, and fewer people have money to spend on an inherently impractical vehicle like a convertible.

Are convertibles really more fun?

Then, there's the fact that what people want out of an aspirational vehicle these days is very different from what they used to. Ruggedness and SUVs are the status symbols of today, and perhaps one could argue that convertibles didn't actually go away — they just evolved into open-air Ford Broncos and Jeep Wranglers. But even if you have the money for a fun vehicle and prefer sporty driving over off-roading, there's also the old car enthusiast argument that convertibles are inferior as hardcore driving machines since they're heavier and structurally less rigid than a coupe would be. Nürburgring lap times became an industry-wide obsession around the early to mid-aughts, and naturally, so did chassis rigidity, an inherent convertible weakness.

So, there you have it. Five compounding reasons why no one seems to drive a convertible anymore: safety rules and tech from the '70s that would've made convertibles hard to financially justify, an oil crisis, an affordability crisis, a taste crisis, and perhaps even a little enthusiast snobbery snuck in for good measure. %!s()

The update is part of Apple’s broader effort to make Siri feel more natural and personal, as it rebuilds the assistant around generative AI. Like ChatGPT and others offering voice AI assistants, letting users customize how the AI sounds is an important aspect in helping connect people with the new technology.

However, ChatGPT’s voice-customization options allow users to go even further, as the ability to adjust the AI’s warmth and enthusiasm was rolled out in December 2025, alongside options to configure the base style and tone. The latter lets users adjust OpenAI’s assistant to be more friendly, professional, candid, or quirky, among other styles. This is reflected not only in how ChatGPT speaks, but also in how it presents information to the user.

First introduced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 26) in June, Siri’s voice controls let users personalize their Siri experience beyond just choosing a male- or female-sounding assistant. Now beta testers will be able to switch between a range of voices with different accents, and then use sliders to change how slowly or quickly Siri speaks and how much human-like emotion its voice conveys.

As you make the adjustments, Siri will practice saying some common things, like “You have one new message,” so you can get a sense of how the different voices sound.

The AI version of Siri is deeply integrated across the updated version of iOS, where it will allow iPhone owners to start conversations by speaking, swiping down from the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen and typing, tapping on the phone’s side button, or even by using the brand-new stand-alone Siri app.

Other, more minor updates are also rolling out with iOS 27 beta 3, including an updated Reminders app icon. (We should note some people on X are also reporting losing access to the new Siri after updating, or seeing their phone again begin indexing their data — typically, the first step in optimizing Siri AI for search.)
