Xbox Game Pass Just Got One of 2025's Weirdest and Most Irresistible Platformers

You can't make an omelette without breaking... a lot of eggs

If you were online in 2015, you remember I Am Bread. The 3D platformer from the developers of Surgeon Simulator had a very simple premise: you are bread, and you want to be toast. Through that premise, I Am Bread delivered a hilariously frustrating experience of climbing, vaulting, and flipping your way toward a heat source.

If you liked I Am Bread, in all its insane, clumsy, rage-baity glory, you’ll also like Egging On, one of the strangest platformers to come out last year. Like I Am Bread, Egging On wants nothing more than to troll you. It happens to be very good at it, too.

Egging On is a 3D platformer where you control a very, very fragile egg. You begin by rolling through grass — a more forgiving surface than anywhere you’re going — as a narrator encourages you to reach the henhouse and start climbing. As the game progresses, you’ll climb through a barn, factory, store, kitchen, and attic — all in one long run.

You can only get so mad, though. Every time your egg plummets to its doom, it does so in a distinctly egglike way. In fact, it’s a bit of a miracle that your egg got as far as it did in the first place. With an awkward shape and wobbly physics, maneuvering your egg in Egging On feels rightfully challenging.

If the precise, physics-based gameplay of Egging On sounds like your jam, but you could do without the game’s most punishing features, you have some say over difficulty. Egging On includes two modes: a standard climb with no checkpoints — meaning falls can land you back at square one — and an optional checkpoint mode. Toggling on Drone Mode means that, with every fall, a drone lifts you back up to the highest checkpoint you reached in your previous run. Another toggle lets you use Special Eggs, like the “Retro Egg,” a pixelated green shell that grants you a double jump and the ability to slow down time. Another bonus, the Rocket Egg, does exactly what you think: it offers you a jet boost based on limited fuel.

If you take advantage of either Drone Mode or Special Eggs, just be sure to toggle those on before your climb. Unfortunately, if you open a file without either and change your mind, you have to start over.

While previously available on the PC and Ultimate tiers of Xbox Game Pass, Egging On was added to the cheaper Premium tier earlier this month, so it’s even easier to spend an afternoon getting really, really mad.
