As a former employee of Playtime Co., you've explored the depths of its horrifying toy factory and met many of its inhabitants, including Huggy Wuggy, who just wants to hug you (to death).

Today Mob Entertainment, makers of Poppy Playtime, have announced a new game, and it's sending you back to that haunted toy factory once more—but this time you can bring some friends along. Escape from Playtime is a co-op horror game for 1-4 players and it's coming to early access on Steam. Here's the announcement trailer:

Watch On

This time around you're playing "from the perspective of the cute-yet-disturbing Smiling Critters," says Mob Entertainment—the Critters being the misfit toys you meet in the original episodic (and singleplayer) Poppy Playtime.

"Tasked with scavenging materials for a mysterious building project that promises escape from the factory, players will need to work together and follow instructions from an ominous voice lurking somewhere in the shadows, all while evading the factory's most dangerous denizens," the developer says.

"Along the way, players can solve puzzles, uncover clues, scavenge tools, use hiding spots and alternate routes, and turn the factory layout to their advantage. Proximity voice chat adds another risk: communication is essential, but an irresponsible whisper can bring the mission to a brutal end."

Fans of the original horror series will see some familiar sights in the factory, but just because you've been there before doesn't mean there won't be a few surprises: "The mysterious Voice seems to be altering the factory's layout, creating procedurally generated environments that change with each run," says Mob Entertainment.

Well, a spooky factory full of mechanical horrors sounds like a great fit for co-op, so I'm not surprised Mob decided to make their next survival horror game a multiplayer experience. There's no date shown in the trailer, just that Escape from Playtime is "coming soon" to early access. Here's its home on Steam while you wait.
