Mercedes Is Giving Its 2027 Lineup the Ozempic Treatment, Dropping Several Models
tags:- Mercedes is trimming the fat from its 2027 lineup by dropping a model and axing several trim levels.
- The Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG EQE sedans are gone for 2027, as are the AMG S63 and the Maybach EQS SUV.
- We’ve already seen a refreshed C-class in C300 form, but Mercedes has been conspicuously quiet about the future of the C43 and C63 sedans, leaving their survival in doubt.
Between its Benz, AMG, and Maybach lineups, Mercedes is trimming some excess fat—at least for the 2027 model year. The automaker is dropping one model and killing two trims across a handful of model lines.

Pour one out for the EQE electric sedan. The electrified reimagination of the venerable E-class has been laid to rest in both Benz and AMG forms, a spokesperson for Mercedes confirmed to Car and Driver. It’s being joined on the cutting room floor by the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance, the red-hot version of Merc’s iconic S-class sedan, as well as the most luxurious version of the EQS SUV, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS680

The EQ models were something of a failed first draft for Mercedes. While some automakers designed their initial electric models to look like carbon copies of their combustion cars—a strategy Mercedes has now also adopted itself—the Stuttgart-based automaker wanted its EVs to look wholly different.
Mercedes has now pulled back from that decision, launching more traditionally styled electric variants of its popular C-class sedan and GLC-class SUV. While Benz-branded models of the EQS sedan and EQS SUV remain in the lineup for now, we’d be shocked if the company isn’t working on future replacements that follow its new EV formula.
We also expect to see the S63 return to the lineup in the future. In fact, we’d wager that Mercedes will drop the car’s current plug-in hybrid powertrain and relaunch the S63 with pure V-8 power in a year or so.
Along with the confirmed absences, Mercedes has a couple of no-call no-shows in the form of the AMG C43 and C63 sedans. We’ve already seen the refreshed C300, which will arrive next year as a 2027 model. Unfortunately, the AMG variants were conspicuously absent from that reveal—though there’s always the chance that Mercedes reveals them in the future.
