Square Enix announced during today's State of Play that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be released on April 8, 2027, finally delivering a conclusion to the FF7 Remake trilogy after seven years.

Revelation's release, however, will not be the actual end of the remake trilogy. The developer has also revealed that the third entry in the series will receive two pieces of story DLC focused on fan-favorite characters Sephiroth and Vincent Valentine.

Square Enix shared the news after the State of Play on the official PlayStation Blog. The details come from Revelation's edition and pre-order information. The PlayStation Blog post noted that a Premium Edition for the game will include the main game and the Story Expansion Pass. A graphic showing off the contents of the Premium Edition further revealed that the Story Expansion Pass will be composed of two pieces of story DLC, currently referred to as "Story DLC 1: Sephiroth" and "Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks." According to an official Square Enix press release, both pieces of DLC are planned to be released between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028. They will also be available for individual purchase.

What to expect in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's Story DLC

So far the remake trilogy has received only one major story DLC in the form of Remake's Episode INTERmission. The Yuffie-focused chapter released almost a year after Remake and told an original story about what the young ninja was up to in Midgar during the events of the first game before she met up with Cloud and the rest of the gang. While both Sephiroth and Vincent are characters with extensive backstories that have been expanded upon in the extended Final Fantasy 7 lore, it is likely their respective story DLCs won't retread old ground.

Talking to Automaton earlier this year, director Naoki Hamaguchi said that any DLC would likely focus on the "untold stories" of characters. Episode INTERmission's main quest took roughly six hours to finish, so that could indicate how long the Revelation story DLC will be as well. The prospect of new tales about Vincent and Sephiroth is enticing, but some fans will be disappointed that Square Enix isn't using this opportunity to quietly remake cult classics like the Vincent-focused Dirge of Cerberus. No pricing for the story DLC has been announced yet.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be released on April 8, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
