This 602-HP Chevy Silverado Street Truck Is a Collab Between Callaway and a New Partner

  • Callaway Cars and Waldoch Crafts have teamed up to build a Chevy Silverado–based street truck.
  • The Launch Edition pickup puts a Roots-type supercharger on GM's 6.2-liter V-8 and gets performance upgrades to match.
  • The two companies plan more joint efforts, including some based on GM SUVs.

Here's an interesting collab between a name you probably know and one you might not. Callaway has a history of making fast cars faster, with a particular focus on Corvettes. Waldoch Crafts is a Minnesota-based vehicle customizer that builds camper vans and off-road trucks. They've found common ground on this Silverado 1500 street truck, the first product from a new partnership between the companies.

From Turbo BMWs to Supercharged GMs

Callaway Cars first made its name, with the help of this publication, turbocharging BMWs. It has since shifted focus mostly to GM vehicles and traded twin-turbo kits for superchargers. This truck's SC602 package is exactly what you'd expect: a supercharger placed atop a GM small-block 6.2-liter V-8, making 602 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The blower is a Roots-type unit displacing 2650 ccs. It exhales through a Callaway exhaust made from 304 stainless and featuring a selectable sport (which we read to mean loud) mode.

GM has its own supercharged version of the LT4 V-8 that can be found under the hood of the Cadillac Escalade-V. The factory route gets you more power—682 ponies and 653 pound-feet—but then you have to buy all of those extra seats and luxuries too. While this supercharged Silverado makes do with less output, unlike the all-wheel-drive super Slade, everything it has is sent to the rear axle. The Chevy pickup also has a lot less weight to contend with, so performance could even outdo that of the Escalade-V, which hit 60 mph in a tidy 4.3 seconds in our testing. Acceleration aside, smoky burnouts should be a snap.

Other performance-enhancing upgrades include a lowered suspension with coil-overs up front and adjustable dampers all around. The Callaway-Waldoch 22-inch wheels wear 305/45 Toyo Proxes ST III performance all-seasons, and everything comes to a stop via a Callaway big-brake package featuring six-piston front rotors clamping 15-inch rotors.

Stealth Like a Street Truck Should Be

Waldoch's contribution to this team effort is a subtle but appropriate makeover for the exterior and interior. Just about everything on the outside is color-keyed, including a set of rocker extensions and the custom grille. The upholstery is upgraded to a combo of leather and Alcantara, and both companies' names share prime placement. In addition to the usual serialized plaque on the interior, there's a VIN-etched plate under the hood, and the truck comes with documentation from both of its parents.

Waldoch and Callaway will sell 100 of the Launch Edition trucks through authorized Chevy dealers. Buyers have a choice of a select number of exterior hues, and for an extra charge they'll give it the "tuxedo" treatment, painting the top half of the truck black. We prefer the subdued all-black look of this one, as the red mirror tops are just enough to let you know you're looking at something special. The V-8 should handle that job on its own anyway.

Pricing hasn't been shared yet, but there is a configurator on the Waldoch website that leads to a form for enquiries. If you like what you see here but need more space, keep an eye out for future products from this duo, which they say will include SUVs.
