Overview

XC60 crossover as its electron-sipping counterpart—similar to the way the EX40 electric SUV is a fraternal twin to the gas-powered XC40.

Rear-wheel-drive single-motor P6 models make 369 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive P10 and P12 versions make 503 and 670 horses, respectively. All come with a large battery pack, but the P12 powertrain comes with the largest and, therefore, the longest range, which Volvo estimates to be as high as 400 miles per charge.

Expert Tip: Not quite ready to go entirely electric? Volvo sells a plug-in hybrid version of its gas-powered XC60 SUV, which offers similar panache and plenty of power.

What's New for 2027?

The EX60 is a new model for Volvo, using the EX prefix the company is reserving for its EVs.

Our new comparison tool provides a comprehensive, side-by-side comparison of up to five vehicles of your choice.

Compare Cars

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

  • EV Motors: 369-hp single motor (P6), 503-hp dual motor (P10), 670-hp dual motor (P12)
  • Drivetrains: rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive

When we drove the EX60, we found both the P6 and P10 versions to be quick and responsive; we haven't yet gotten behind the wheel of the P12, but we expect it to feel downright fast. The EX60's handling is well-balanced and the ride is comfortable, and we liked the adjustable regenerative braking with a one-pedal driving mode.

0–60-MPH Times

  • Manufacturer's Estimates: 5.7 seconds (P6); 4.4 seconds (P10); 3.8 seconds (P12)

In Comparison: The BMW iX3 is the EX60's closest competitor, and it has an estimated 60-mph time of 4.7 seconds for its sole powertrain combination.

Towing and Payload Capacity

  • Max Towing: 4500 pounds

Volvo rates the P6 model to tow 3600 pounds, while the P10 is rated to tow 4500 pounds. We don't yet have a tow rating for the most powerful P12 model.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

  • Claimed EV Range: 295–400 miles

Base P6-powered EX60s come with an 80-kWh battery pack, which is said to deliver a driving range of up to 307 miles per charge. The P10 setup gets a 91-kWh pack and a slightly higher driving range estimate of up to 330 miles per charge. The top-dog P12 is the range leader, though, as its 112-kWh battery is estimated to deliver up to 400 miles of driving.

The P6 and P10 models are capable of charging the quickest, with Volvo estimating that they can re-juice from 10 to 80 percent in just 16 minutes when connected to the right public DC fast charger. The P12 juices up from 10 to 80 percent in a claimed 19 minutes. All EX60 models come with a NACS-style charging port, which provides access to charging via the Tesla Supercharger network.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: Like the rest of the Volvo lineup, the EX60 features a minimalistic, Scandinavian-inspired interior design. Much of the EX60's controls are accessed via the infotainment touchscreen or by fussing with steering wheel buttons, which is usually less simple for drivers than automakers think it is. Nonetheless, the uncluttered nature of the EX60's dashboard does have a certain charm. A pair of cupholders slides out from the center console with a large storage bin below that will fit a handbag or a large water bottle. A hinged storage bin opens up from under the infotainment display and features a shelf with a wireless phone charging pad.

Second Row: Rear seat passenger space is class competitive, and the EX60's rear seats share a similar contouring to the front buckets. USB-C charging ports for rear-seat passengers are located on the back of the center console, and some models offer heated rear seats and rear climate controls.

Cargo Capacity: With the second row in place, there's a 20-cubic-foot cargo bay; with the rear seats folded, that space opens to a much larger 64 cubic feet. A small 3-cubic-foot front trunk (frunk) is also provided. When we get a chance to test the EX60 for ourselves, we'll see how many carry-on suitcases will fit and update this story with those details.

Infotainment and Connectivity

  • Infotainment: 15.0-inch touchscreen
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Audio System: 21-speaker Bose stereo (standard), 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo (optional)

A 15.0-inch curved OLED touchscreen infotainment system is standard in the EX60. It runs Volvo's latest Google-based software interface, but we expect to see both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard.

Plus trims come with a 21-speaker Bose stereo, and a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup is available, which includes speakers in each of the EX60's four outboard headrests.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Volvo is a brand known for safety, and all models come loaded with driver-assistance features, including the brand's Pilot Assist system, which couples adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

  • Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature.

For information about the EX60's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Volvo offers a well-rounded warranty package on its new cars, including a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan that spans three years or 36,000 miles.

  • Limited Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
  • Battery Component Warranty: eight years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary Maintenance: three years or 36,000 miles
