The Good, Bad And Ugly From The Packers’ Sixth Training Camp Practice

Baltimore Ravens v Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers Jordan Morgan (77) is getting a chance to play left tackle this season and has impressed early on in camp.

… %!s()

The Green Bay Packers held their sixth training camp practice on a glorious, sunny, 80-degree Tuesday morning.

The Packers will now take Wednesday off, have a closed practice Thursday and hold their ‘Family Night’ on Friday.

Here’s the good, bad and ugly from practice No. 6.

THE GOOD

A WELCOME MOVE: Jordan Morgan spent his first two seasons hoping to play left tackle. Now that he is, Morgan is making the most of it.

Morgan has had a solid summer. And during one-on-one drills Tuesday, Morgan defeated edge rusher Lukas Van Ness all three times.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence in him,” Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst recently said of Morgan. “Hopefully keeping him in that one spot will allow him to progress a little bit quicker.”

PLAY OF THE DAY: Second-year defensive end Barryn Sorrell has had a relatively quiet start to camp. He made his presence felt Tuesday, though, intercepting a Love pass and taking it 60 yards for a pick six.

MORE FOR YOU

Sorrell perfectly read a backside screen to running back Josh Jacobs and intercepted Love. Overall, it was probably Sorrell’s best day of the summer.

“It’s a great feeling,” Sorrell said. “I don’t even know how to describe it. Definitely a great feeling anytime I can go out there and make plays, that’s what I’m out there to do. It’s fun.”

Sorrell, a fourth round draft pick in 2025, played 14 games and 15.9% of the defensive snaps last season.

Sorrell entered Week 18 with just seven tackles in 13 games, two quarterback hurries and no sacks. Sorrell has faded to black down the stretch, too, and was a healthy twice in December — even with fellow defensive end Micah Parsons lost for the season.

Then in Week 18 at Minnesota, Sorrell had eight tackles, a sack and recovered a fumble. Sorrell also stoned running back Ty Chandler for a 1-yard loss on third-and-1 late in the first quarter, forcing a Minnesota punt.

With edge rusher Micah Parsons (ACL) expected out until mid-to-late October, Sorrell knows he’s being counted on to shine.

“Right now I’m just trying to play my role,” Sorrell said. “At the end of the day, it’s an opportunity for me and ‘m looking forward to this opportunity. It’s the type of thing that I’ve worked on and this is what I’ve been waiting on and praying for. I just want to take advantage of it.”

SEIZING THE MOMENT: Second round rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse is taking full advantage of Carrington Valentine being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Cisse was targeted three times during one-on-one drills and didn't allow a completion.

“It feels great and there's just a long ways to go,” Cisse said. “Every day I'm working to get better. I'm nowhere near as great of a player as I want to be. I never think I'll be as great as I want to be. It's always just working and working, finishing the little details. It's good to get out there, experienced different speeds, get used to it, so it'll be fun.”

SECRET WEAPON?: Green Bay defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has disguised blitzes from all over the field throughout training camp.

Newly acquired linebacker Zaire Franklin hasn't done much rushing yet, but he could be a secret weapon when the season starts.

Franklin has 10.0 sacks the last four seasons and had a 13.8% blitz rate in 2025.

“I mean that was definitely something that I've been working to build on, and you know it came to fruition a little bit more last year,” said Franklin who spent his first eight seasons with Indianapolis. “Just the ability to affect the quarterback, you know, rushing and rushing the passer. I mean we had a lot of success last year with D-line stunts, blitzing through the A gap.

“I feel like I'm a point of attack type of person. So it's kind of like … I feel like I'm the tip of the spear of the defense. I feel like I'm best when I'm leading from the front. So if you want the defense to be physical, you want something physical then you’re better off sending me like a bullet. I mean let me wreck something and set the tone for everybody.”

GOOD NEWS?: Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons discussed the progress he’s making from his ACL and meniscus tear.

Parsons suffered the injury on Dec. 14, 2025 and had surgery on Dec. 29. Parsons was asked if making it back for Green Bay’s Week 6 game against Dallas on Oct. 18 was realistic.

“I think it’s very realistic,” Parsons said. “Me and the staff, we’ve got to put the work in. We’ve got to get to the point where I’m feeling great and we say, ‘Micah, you’ll be in a really good phase.’ Is it possible? Yes. So, I wouldn’t say it’s not possible but, at the same time, in these next 10 weeks – 10, 12 weeks from now on – we’ve got to do our part to make it possible. It’s not off the board but we’ve got to put the work in.”

Parsons was also asked if he envisioned himself playing fewer snaps after his comeback is complete. His answer will put a smile on the faces of old school football fans.

“I don't necessarily say so,” he said. “I feel like if we're going to go that route of like the NBA guys, of, ‘Oh, they need to play so many snaps or games or whatever,’ I'm in the wrong sport, you know? We talked about this. Would you rather have peak or longevity? I’d rather have peak.

“I’d rather maximize my eight, nine, 10 years that I have of this game and know that I put everything out on the line, than to have 15 years and say ‘I was only good for a couple because I tried to play the longevity game, not go all out.’ So I’d rather have the peak, for real.”

MAKING MOVES: The Packers signed tight ends McCallan Castles and Drew Biber and waived/injured tight ends Luke Lachey and RJ Maryland.

Castles (6-4, 244), a first-year player out of the University of Tennessee, spent the second half of last season on the Packers’ practice squad and part of the offseason with Green Bay before being released April 17.

In six college seasons at Cal (2018-19), UC Davis (2020-22) and Tennessee (2023), Castles had 92 receptions for 1,226 yards and 14 touchdowns. He will wear No. 47 in Green Bay.

Biber (6-3, 247), a Cedarburg, Wis., native, played four seasons for Purdue (2021-24) and one season at the University of Minnesota (2025). Overall, he had 33 receptions for 271 yards (8.2 avg.) and a touchdown. Biber will wear No. 46.

THIS AND THAT: Benjamin St-Juste sacked Tyrod Taylor on a corner blitz for the second straight day. “It’s been very successful the past couple days in training camp and we’ve got a lot of different varieties of what we can send and where we can send it from – right side, left side, both sides at the same time,” St-Juste said of blitzing. … The Packers altered their No. 1 offensive line moving Jager Burton to left guard, Jacob Monk to right guard and Anothony Belton to right tackle. That left Darian Kinnard — who had been working at right tackle — operating with the No. 2 offense. … Safety Evan Williams had a sack and a pressure. … Aaron Banks (knee), who’s been practicing one day and resting the next, was back at practice.

THE BAD

FROM THE INFIRMARY: Here’s how the Packers’ injury list looked Tuesday.

Reserve lists: edge rusher Micah Parsons (knee), defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (knee), running back Chris Brooks (hamstring), tight end Luke Musgrave (neck), long snapper Matt Orzech (calf) and defensive tackle Jordon Reilly (Achilles).

Cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring), tight end RJ Maryland (hamstring), tight end Luke Lachey and defensive back Johnathan Baldwin all missed practice.

THE UGLY

PARANOIA: Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur no longer has officials signaling if field goal attempts are successful during his team’s practices.

The reason?

“I just love making you guys uncomfortable,” LaFleur said referring to the media.

No one should be more uncomfortable than the head coach himself, though.

Green Bay rookie kicker Trey Smack is off to a rough start, making just 8-of-13 field goal attempts (61.5%). The Packers’ kicking situation has been a revolving door since they moved on from franchise career scoring leader Mason Crosby after the 2022 season, and Smack’s start has been far from ideal.

“I just think it’s going to be a work in progress,” LaFleur said regarding Smack. “This is not our first time with a rookie kicker, so I know that there’s going to be some good, and then I know there’s going to be some that he’s going to want to have back. I think that’s all part of the learning process.”

LaFleur, who began coaching Green Bay in 2019, enjoyed four years of reliability from Crosby, who made 85.4% of his field goals in that time. Since then, Anders Carlson, Brayden Narveson, Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik have all taken their swings, but eventually were replaced.

During the 2023 playoffs, FOX reporter Tom Rinaldi said on-air that LaFleur told him regarding rookie kicker Anders Carlson, “When he goes out there, I just pray.”

LaFleur might want to find his rosary again.

While LaFleur can try protecting his kicker in practice by removing officials, he won’t have that option when the real games arrive.

Then, we’ll see if LaFleur is praying once again.

Best gifts for Juniper

The best gift for Juniper is wine

After much agonizing, I've decided the best gift for Junier is wine which you can buy from the inn. But don't run out and buy wine on day one! It's initially expensive and you can gift her forage items (see below) early in spring instead. When it comes to playing the long game with Juniper, though, wine will become the easiest gift since you can buy it on demand at the inn any day of the year.

Juniper's loved gifts list is almost entirely rare artifacts and high tier food recipes while her liked gifts are rare forage and deep mines loot. You may have lots of items she likes laying in your chests, but it's hard to stock up on any one of them.
