Tehran’s attacks on Monday came as a response to Washington’s escalating strikes as prospects of peace between the two countries recede.

Here is a recap of the latest attacks:

Where were the latest Iran attacks?

Oman: The IRGC said it attacked Oman as part of its latest phase of retaliation. It said it targeted “the FPS long-range aerial radar and the vessel detection radar in Oman”, adding that these radar systems were destroyed.

Bahrain: The IRGC also said it launched missile and drone attacks targeting “installations and infrastructure of the aggressive US army” in Juffair, Bahrain.

Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said on Monday that sirens had been sounded in the country as it warned people to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.

The IRGC earlier said it targeted several facilities at the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

Jordan: Jordan’s military said on Monday that it intercepted and downed “four missiles that entered Jordanian airspace” and came from Iranian territory.

Earlier, the IRGC said it targeted Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base with missiles and drones and set fire to several fuel depots and ammunition storage facilities.

Kuwait: The IRGC said on Monday that it also targeted a US surface-to-surface missile base in Kuwait, “setting fire to two HIMARS missile launchers and missile-packed warehouses, completely destroying them”.

HIMARS stands for high mobility artillery rocket systems, which are mobile rocket launchers manufactured by the US.

Earlier, the General Staff of Kuwait’s Army said air defence systems were engaging “hostile aerial targets” inside the country’s airspace.

It said any explosions heard were the result of air defence systems intercepting the attacks and urged the public to follow safety and security instructions.

Where was Iran hit?

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) earlier said it hit “dozens of targets at multiple locations with precision munitions to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international shipping flowing through the Strait of Hormuz”.

These targets included “Iranian military air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, it said.

CENTCOM said it deployed “US fighter aircraft, naval vessels, one-way attack aerial drones, and one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor for security and law enforcement in western Iran’s Khuzestan province, told the semiofficial ISNA news agency on Monday that US forces attacked at least eight locations across Khuzestan overnight.

Hayati also said one person was killed and four were injured when a projectile hit an agricultural water-pumping station in Mahshahr, according to the IRNA news agency.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported on Monday that a US-manufactured LUCAS (low-cost uncrewed combat attack system) suicide drone was “accurately hit and shot down” in Bandar Abbas, a city on the Strait of Hormuz.

What has each side said?

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Monday condemning the US strikes on targets in Iran.

US President Donald Trump insisted that the Strait of Hormuz was open during an appearance on the NBC TV network’s Meet the Press programme on Sunday.

“They’re very, very evil and sick people. We had meetings with them. They agreed to a deal yesterday, a perfect deal for us. No nuclear, no this, no that, no nothing. They gave up everything. And then after that, they left the room. And then within an hour, they launched a drone at a ship,” Trump said.

When did the conflict reignite?

On July 6, the IRGC struck three commercial vessels, including a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker, off Oman. Iran accused the ships of trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without its permission. Tehran’s interpretation of a key clause in the June memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US gives it the authority to manage traffic through the waterway.

The following day, the US said it carried out strikes on Iranian military targets. Tehran in turn responded with missile and drone attacks on military bases across the Gulf where US forces are deployed.

On Wednesday, Trump told reporters the MoU was over, and on Saturday, the IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz was closed yet again.

How has this impacted the Strait of Hormuz and shipping?

The number of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to its lowest level in five weeks, according to shipping data.

Six ships sailed through the strait on Sunday, according to data from the trade intelligence firm Kpler, including the Humanity and the Capetan Andreas, transporting 2 million barrels of Iranian oil and 500,000 barrels of Kuwaiti petroleum products, respectively.

Three empty tankers also entered the Gulf to load oil, according to the data. %!s()

Sidelined but never silenced, Karen leans on Jeremy and the girls as old wounds from her past resurface… This season, Karen is done giving more than she gets back.”

After a “bruising start that leaves her on the outside looking in,” Mayhew is determined to win the group over one woman at a time. Against all odds, it starts to work. “With her West End dreams coming alive and Tiggy cheering from the wings, Juliet is finally finding the thing that fulfils her beyond motherhood,” teased the streamer. “But just as she steps into the spotlight, fate has other plans, and the woman accused of performing all season is about to show everyone exactly who she really is.”

Parker, “armed with the most expensive lips in London and opinions to match,” is done biting her tongue in season two. “When the lips in question become the season’s biggest source of tension, her friendship with Amanda is pushed to the brink, and Panthea decides that if anyone’s going to force this group to be honest, it’s her.”

Meanwhile, Welschinger is holding down the fort, with Remy abroad and her dad’s well-being on her mind. “When the women demand she gets off the fence, Nessie discovers her voice, and it turns out she’s funnier and fiercer than anyone expected. Between hosting Chinese New Year, stealing the show at the Drag Roast and facing down a new arrival who claims to know who she really is, Nessie is proving that the nicest woman in the room is nobody’s pushover.”

The Real Housewives of London will be available to stream on Hayu from Sept. 7, with episodes dropping weekly. Following the 10-episode run, the season will culminate with a reunion special, hosted again by U.K.-based comedienne Katherine Ryan. %!s()

She bought a vintage gown and in red thread embroidered it with the names of 300 victims.

“I’ve used it as a blank canvas, really,” she told Al Jazeera.

She immersed the hem in a harsh cleaning product to fray the ends.

“I wanted it torn and ragged to represent the conditions in which these people live under.

“When it’s actually hanging, the threads drop the viewer to the bottom where you can sense the profound loss, really, because they sort of pool at the bottom.

“It sort of resembles a bit like a pool of blood.”

Williams, a retired art lecturer, said she was “compelled” to make the artwork “for people to actually grasp the enormity of what is actually happening”.

It is titled Know Their Names after an interactive series of databases compiled by Al Jazeera naming some of the tens of thousands of victims of Israeli attacks. In January 2024, a long list included the names and ages of some of the children who were known at the time to have been killed in Gaza. Overall, Israel’s attacks since the start of its latest war on Gaza in October 2023 have killed more than 20,000 children.

The gown created by Williams features the names of babies under the age of one such as Sara, Elias, Mai and Mona.

‘Profound loss’

Williams, who has three children and two grandchildren, has felt at a loss when watching mothers in Gaza mourn their daughters and sons. World leaders have failed Gaza, she said.

Holding back tears, she said, “All these politicians are fathers, mothers, aunties, uncles. They have children within their immediate family, and I can’t for the life of me understand how this is allowed to carry on.

“I find it’s the average person that’s showing sort of empathy if you like, and I don’t find that the politicians are calling it out at all.”

The gown won a people’s award in January at Galeri Caernarfon, an arts space in Caernarfon, Wales. Williams donated the prize money to Medical Aid for Palestinians. It has been exhibited elsewhere in Wales and has been shortlisted to be displayed at the National Eisteddfod, an annual cultural festival.

The suffering of Gaza’s Christian minority moved Williams, especially after she read about parents rushing to baptise their babies, driven by fear of their deaths.

“I don’t think anything has touched me as much as Gaza, to be honest, and I feel I have to do something,” she said.

Later this year, the empty gown adorned with the names of the war’s smallest victims is to be displayed in Paris and appear on a billboard in New York.

“It’s the actual emptiness and the profound loss that you feel because of it,” she said. “I think it’s sort of opened up a wider debate really about what is actually happening.” %!s()

Before transitioning to coaching and entrepreneurship, I worked at Nokia and eBay, then spent more than a decade at Nvidia in Santa Clara, where I served as a product design lead until September 2022.

I quit my job at Nvidia to do work that felt much more human and meaningful

I spent more than 15 years in tech across engineering, design, and product development. At Nvidia, I was leading the user experience for one of the company's flagship software products, collaborating with teams across the US and India to build cutting-edge experiences for gamers.

On paper, it looked like I had reached a major career milestone, but internally I felt increasingly disconnected from the work I was doing. A big reason for that was realizing I had already achieved the financial goals I set for myself as a kid.

I wanted to own my own home, support my parents financially, and give my family the peace of mind that comes from never having to think twice about everyday financial decisions. At Nvidia, I achieved those things.

What surprised me was that once those goals were checked off, I expected to feel complete. Instead, I felt like something was missing. I realized financial security is different from true fulfillment. I explored new opportunities both within and outside the company, but the experience only reinforced my desire to build something of my own.

I decided to quit. I cared deeply about the company, but staying just for a paycheck no longer felt right.

Leaving Nvidia was scary and exciting

I had no idea how things would turn out, but the idea of stepping into the unknown and exploring something off the beaten path energized me in a way I hadn't felt in years. I knew I was walking away from a very comfortable career, so I wanted to do it responsibly.

I sold enough Nvidia stock to create a financial buffer that I hoped would last at least three years. My goal was to not put any financial pressure on my wife while I figured out what came next.

My close friends were supportive, though others questioned why I would leave such a high-profile, stable job. A lot of my confidence came from knowing I had already explored different paths and still felt pulled toward building something of my own.

My life now revolves around coaching people and building Osmo

The same rise of AI and technology that I once helped build at Nvidia is now causing more people to seek clarity and support through coaching. AI is going to make many kinds of work more efficient, especially repetitive or primarily knowledge-based work. Fighting that reality usually creates more anxiety than accepting it.

Instead, I encourage people to focus on developing the qualities that are uniquely human. The future is becoming less about what you know and more about who you are. Your ability to build trust, communicate with empathy, lead people through uncertainty, think creatively, and build meaningful relationships will only become more valuable.

In January 2024, I founded my in-person coaching business, Touch of Humane. Building Osmo felt like a natural next step, helping coaches support others during a time when human connection matters more than ever.

I essentially started from scratch

I work about six days a week. In the beginning, I wasn't earning any income as I built my coaching practice. The financial buffer I had built gave my family stability during that transition.

Because of that preparation, we didn't have to make any major lifestyle changes, which I'm really grateful for. It allowed me to focus on learning, building relationships, and discovering what kind of work I truly wanted to create, rather than constantly worrying about making ends meet.

I've realized that people put a lot of pressure on themselves to find their next big thing

For me, what mattered more was simply finding my next direction. I did not leave Nvidia with a master plan — I just knew coaching felt meaningful, so I leaned into it.

What started as virtual coaching evolved into in-person sessions, community spaces, and eventually Osmo. Sometimes the next chapter doesn't begin with certainty. Sometimes it simply starts with curiosity.

There are definitely things I miss about corporate life

Starting your own company can be surprisingly lonely. One thing I took for granted at Nvidia was simply having people around: Walking over to someone's desk to brainstorm an idea, grabbing coffee together, or sharing the ups and downs of a project. Those small interactions create a sense of belonging that's easy to overlook until it's gone.

I also have a greater appreciation now for the amount of validation built into corporate environments. There are managers giving feedback, teammates celebrating wins, performance reviews acknowledging progress, and people who notice when you're struggling. As a solopreneur, much of that disappears.

Emotional highs and lows are much more extreme as an entrepreneur. There are days when a partnership falls through after months of work, or when you spend weeks building something that nobody uses. Then there are moments that make it all worthwhile.

I keep in touch with some former colleagues. Those relationships have remained important to me. I will always be grateful for the people I worked alongside during my years at Nvidia.

“Rest in peace to our Jurassic legend, Sam Neill,” Universal Pictures posted on X.

“Muriel’s Wedding” star Rachel Griffiths, who directed Neill in 2019’s “Ride Like a Girl,” wrote: “Such a shock – loved by so many – I’ll be cracking two paddocks tonight,” a reference to Two Paddocks, Neill’s Central Otago winery.

“Knew @samneilltheprop for 3 decades and finally worked with him on PALM BEACH in 2018. An officer and a Gentleman in the truest sense. Guided and helped me through a very difficult time in my Life,” actor Richard E. Grant posted on Instagram.
