The Egyptian forward was in the spotlight at the World Cup, where his team exited in the round of 16 following a defeat by Argentina, but all attention will now turn to his club career as he is on the move following his departure from Liverpool.

Is Salah joining Besiktas?

The rumour mill is in full flow, and there are a plethora of options for the former Liverpool star.

A move to Turkiye has been mooted, and Besiktas are believed to be leading the candidates. If social media reports are to be believed, a verbal agreement has already been reached.

A fourth-placed finish last season in the Turkish league has heaped pressure on the club officials to improve results, and Salah’s signing would be seen as the perfect tonic on and off the field.

Europa League football awaits this season for the Istanbul-based club, and their campaign begins on Thursday with a qualifier against Danish club Midtjylland.

Could Salah move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia’s Pro League?

A stay in Europe would be the primary option for Salah, should he wish to continue to challenge his game at the highest level.

A move to Saudi Arabia has long been in the news cycle. It would be seen as a huge coup for the Saudi Pro League, especially given Salah’s status as the greatest player to not only come out of the Middle East but also as Africa’s finest.

The other competition that would dearly love Salah to become their poster boy is the MLS (Major League Soccer) in the United States.

Lionel Messi remains their star turn, but with the failure of Argentina at the World Cup, there will be speculation that the 39-year-old may not only call time on his international playing days but also his club career.

Salah’s stock rises as an off-pitch class act?

Salah’s appeal extends well beyond his skill on the flank. The magical left foot is complemented by the grace he also has off the field of play.

The Egyptian earned huge credit for pulling his teammate away from confrontations with officials and opponents after the defeat by Argentina.

Salah enjoys a large following and is counted among the biggest icons of his generation across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.

Marketeers and financiers will be rubbing their hands together in whichever part of the world Salah ends up.

Who replaces Salah at Liverpool?

Alongside the question of where Salah ends up is the problem of who will replace him at Liverpool.

New manager Andoni Iraola has acknowledged the huge challenge he has in trying to find a player who can have the impact the Champions League and two-time Premier League winner, Salah, had at Anfield.

Two of the names at the top of the list are Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, but Iraola has indicated that he will not seek an immediate replacement so as not to draw comparisons, thereby heaping pressure on any new arrival.

Did Salah reject Saudi Arabia?

This much is not clear as of yet, but the link has been there for some time between Salah and the Saudi Pro League.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) said it would do “whatever it can” to recruit Salah when it became clear that he was unsettled at Liverpool following a fallout with the club’s then-manager Arne Slot.

Now that the player is a free agent, the Saudi Pro League will surely be scrambling to secure his signature.

Is Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford next in line for a move?

The most anticipated move of the summer is that of Marcus Rashford.

Loaned from Manchester United to Barcelona last season, the forward saw a dramatic improvement in fortunes and helped the Catalan giant to their second La Liga title in as many seasons.

It earned him a recall to the England side, and he was thereafter named in their World Cup squad.

Barcelona, however, appear to have rejected the chance to sign Rashford at the pre-agreed price that was part of the loan agreement.

The 28-year-old has now returned to Old Trafford for preseason, while negotiations are ongoing as to whether United will lower their asking price from what was set when last season’s move was agreed.

Paris Saint-Germain have long been linked as suitors for Rashford, but the Champions League holders have a plethora of talent on the flanks, so much so that Barcola has been linked with a move away to find first-team football.

Could Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe leave Real Madrid?

Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe have both been linked with moves away from Real Madrid, but the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager will surely change that.

Mourinho, returning for his second spell in charge of Los Blancos, will not want to lose the record scorer in World Cup history as he seeks to turn the fortunes of the Madrid-based club.

Similarly, Bellingham stole the show in leading England to the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup, and Mourinho will be eager to see the midfielder return to his influential role of pulling the strings in the centre of the park.

Is Jamal Musiala moving and could Julian Alvarez be Barcelona-bound?

One player that could be moving to Real, though, is Jamal Musiala.

The Bayern Munich winger is seen as a potential foil for Brazil’s Vinicius Junior on the other flank. It would create quite the front three, but Galatasaray may have stolen a march on the 23-year-old, who had only signed a new contract in 2025 with the German giants.

Julian Alvarez could be one player leaving Madrid – from Atletico, not Real – and Barcelona could be the destination.

The 26-year-old made a surprise move from Manchester City to Madrid, in that it was a shock that City let the forward leave in 2025.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the Argentinian international, and he seems the most likely of the big names – away from Salah and Rashford – that could still be snapped up before the new season begins. %!s()

While on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with guest host (and fellow “Euphoria” star) Colman Domingo, Elordi was asked about filming the gruesome scene. When Domingo brought up his once-loathed character’s death, the studio audience let out a sad “aww.”

“Thanks,” Elordi said to the audience with mock annoyance. “Finally, after eight years of all of you saying, ‘Fuck Nate, kill Nate, Nate’s a piece of shit’ — yeah, I read your tweets — now you’re sad. Hmm.”

In Season 3 of “Euphoria,” Nate — once the antagonistic high school bully — was chased by a sketchy businessman and his henchmen after an investment in Nate’s real-estate venture went awry. Episode after episode, Nate was brutally beaten by goons.

“I think Sam brought me back to torture me,” Elordi said of series creator Sam Levinson. “It was like, six weeks of me just getting beat by a seven-foot guy. I was just running the whole time.”

As for filming his eventual demise, Elordi said, “I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin.”

Elordi was joined in the coffin by a boa constrictor, which, in the show, was turned into a deadly rattlesnake.

“He had a very nice personality,” Elordi said of the reptile. “He was very docile and very sleepy. I don’t think he’d had a lot of sun … So I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, because he was meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet.”

Talking about the impact of “Euphoria” on his career, Elordi said, “It really changed my whole life. It’s an incredible thing. … I don’t know if I’ll ever fathom the sort of size of that show and what it did for me.” Speaking directly to Domingo, who recently starred in “Disclosure Day,” he added, “I mean, we’re in movies now! Like, you’re leading Spielberg movies and I’m working with Ridley Scott. It’s crazy.”

For frequent Instagram posters, it might seem like the app has let you add music to posts forever. But in reality, the company only rolled the feature out back in 2022. (If that doesn't sound right to you, you're just misremembering—you have been able to add music to Stories since 2018.) Over the past four years, it has been possible to attach a track to your pictures to set a mood for your post. It's a bit of an Instagram staple at this point: if you use the app with your volume up, you can't really scroll through your friends' posts without hearing a whiplash of songs.

In all that time, however, adding a song was all or nothing. If you posted with a particular tune, that was the permanent soundtrack to your post. Any regrets you might have about that particular song could only be remedied by deleting the post entirely—a bit of an extreme step in most cases. As such, you might have posts in your feed with tracks you don't care for anymore, but since you don't want to take down the pictures altogether, you've had to leave them up and accept your past poor choices. But no more!

Now you can change the songs on any of your Instagram posts

On Tuesday, Instagram announced that songs on posts and carousels are now editable. You can swap out songs using Instagram's new "Replace Audio" feature, which lets you change the music on a post without deleting it or affecting any likes or comments. It's a simple change, but one that Instagram's user base will likely receive positively, and positive sentiment is definitely something the company needs in the wake of outcry over another high-profile feature that briefly let users generate AI images with posts from any public account. The company has since removed that option, and seems to be focused on adding new features users might actually want.

Changing the songs on your posts is relatively simple: Any time you want to swap out the song on one of your past posts, you can tap the two lines above the picture, tap "Edit," then choose the new "Original audio" option that appears in the menu. Phish are no strangers to Madison Square Garden — they’ve been ringing in the new year at the iconic venue for decades. Now Phish are back for a short summer residency at the Garden, with five shows this week and next.

Giant sequoias are a unique species found naturally only on the western slopes of California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. These trees, which can reach more than 300 feet (91 meters) in height and more than 30 feet (9 meters) in diameter, are keystones of the ecosystem and serve as carbon sinks, water filters and structural habitats for birds, insects and small mammals.

Recent wildfires have caused far more giant sequoia deaths than usual, threatening the trees' future. Prescribed, or "controlled," burns help the trees by thinning underbrush, dead wood and other dry fuels, reducing the likelihood of mortality from high-intensity wildfires.

Tracking losses across 19 groves

Researchers analyzed data on 26,403 giant sequoias across 19 groves in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in the wake of the 2020 and 2021 fire seasons, when a record 6.8 million acres (2.8 million hectares) burned across California.

During those two years, 19% of the total mature giant sequoia population across the range was destroyed.

Remote sensing sharpens the case

The team combined lidar, stem maps, high-resolution imagery and modeling techniques to estimate giant sequoia mortality in relation to forest management practices. It found that prescribed burns saved roughly 1,800 giant sequoias.

While prescribed burns are widely considered among the best ways to protect giant sequoias, evidence to date has been primarily anecdotal. This study showed the value of high-resolution remote sensing for species-specific conservation efforts, with applications for old-growth forests worldwide.
