As spotted by Windows Latest, a developer on Chinese forum Bilibili has managed to get an RTX 4060 working on Windows on Arm using a driver based on the "RTX Spark laptop driver". The dev responsible, VoidTech, suggests this is driver 590. This is an older Nvidia driver, as we're currently at version 610.74, and it reportedly doesn't support DGX Spark processors that RTX Spark is based on.

All this is to say, I'm not sure exactly what is going on with the specific driver in question, but VoidTech does explicitly say it's based on an RTX Spark driver. I have little reason to doubt it, especially given there are now some official drivers for RTX Spark in the wild.

The dev gets some games up and running, including the Black Myth: Wukong benchmark. Focusing on that as our test case for a moment, the video shows an average of 21 fps at 1080p (DLSS on just for AA, not upscaling) on medium settings and ray tracing off (according to some AI-aided translation of the Chinese characters). That's not even half as good as what we tested the RTX 4060 at on a standard Windows install with similar settings (50 fps on High settings, TSR on just for AA).

So not exactly great, but honestly the fact that it's working at all is impressive. These are far from official drivers, remember. Plus, it's running on a Huawei Kunpeng 920 processor which is optimised for servers and unlikely to have the same kind of gaming chops as desktop one.

When it comes to actual RTX Spark gaming performance, Nvidia has promised 100 fps at 1440p in the latest games. Our Dave got to actually try out Spark playing Alan Wake 2 and was pretty impressed with how smooth it runs, though we'll have to wait until the chip launches this autumn to form a concrete view.

As far as to what extent RTX Spark will open up Windows on Arm for gaming on other devices, well, running an RTX 4060 on Windows on Arm is certainly a good sign, is it not? It's difficult to imagine a world where Nvidia manages to keep its drivers only working with that chip and not other Nvidia ones, once the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

And our Dave notes that he spotted early Qualcomm X Elite dev units with references to PCIe graphics connections in the BIOS, implying there's always been a latent possibility for discrete GPUs on Windows on Arm. It's all a question of how quickly real support comes along and how well the software allows it to perform.

OpenAI is launching a new product that could help the company take another step beyond the ultra-competitive business of making AI models.

The offering, called OpenAI Presence, helps companies run AI agents better by connecting these systems to internal corporate data, policies, existing software, and workflows.

It's designed to automate parts of customer support, sales, and other tasks such as fixing billing issues, supporting insurance claims, or resolving employee IT service requests.

This is the latest example of OpenAI trying to move beyond selling access to AI models and into more parts of the corporate software market. While Presence could help OpenAI win more corporate business, it could also leave the startup competing with some of its AI model customers.

The new service includes features that let a customer test their agent for a chosen job, including simulations, guardrails, human review, and automated graders that use AI to check agent outputs. Once these agents launch inside companies, OpenAI's Codex tool can investigate issues that crop up and suggest updates.

Presence also comes with AI-powered voice and chat technology, which could help corporate customers automate more interactions with existing and potential customers.

OpenAI is making the service available to corporate customers on a case-by-case basis. Users must work with OpenAI's engineers or designated partners to access the tool.

"The agent receives only the knowledge and system access required for that job," OpenAI said. "The company sets the policies: what the agent can do, when it needs approval, and when a person should take over."

OpenAI is already using the tool to run its AI phone support channel for English speakers, the startup said.

The AI model race is becoming fiercely competitive, with rivals including Anthropic, Google, xAI, Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek, and others all offering increasingly capable models. This month, new open-weight Chinese AI models have shown again that performance gaps are narrowing, prices are falling, and many customers are becoming more willing to switch between providers.

That dynamic creates pressure on OpenAI to move into enterprise software, where products are stickier, and where customers buy complete business solutions rather than just AI models.

Presence appears to be part of that strategy. Instead of asking companies to build their own agent systems, OpenAI is packaging the surrounding software needed to deploy AI safely inside large organizations.

OpenAI isn't the only AI lab moving beyond models. Earlier this year, Anthropic launched an Enterprise AI Services company and expanded its Claude Partner Network to help businesses integrate AI into their operations.

With Presence, OpenAI increasingly looks less like a model company and more like an enterprise software provider with AI at its core.

I get why this feels like a defining decision. After two decades in telecom and software infrastructure, I've watched companies make platform bets that shaped their next 10 years. However, most companies are putting strategic weight on a decision that's becoming less important by the month and missing the one that actually matters.

AI models are becoming commodity infrastructure.​

I've seen this pattern before. In telecom, companies regularly bet big on platforms that looked dominant, only to wake up a few years later to find the market had moved on without them. By the time leadership recognized the shift, switching had become expensive, painful and bogged down by internal resistance.​

AI is moving even faster. METR research found that the length of tasks AI agents can autonomously complete has roughly doubled every four months for advanced models released since 2023. A model that can reliably handle an hourlong task today will be handling tasks eight times longer a year from now.

Also, the lead moves between providers, not just within one. Whoever's leading today probably isn't 12 months from now. Any business architected around a single provider is locked into something already on its way out. Meanwhile, pricing keeps collapsing, and performance gaps that seemed enormous a year ago close in a single release cycle.​

The model is becoming the least unique part of the AI stack. Treating it as a long-term strategic commitment is like committing to a single cloud region in 2010. I've watched companies make that exact bet for two decades. It looks like a safe play today, but it ages badly.​

The real advantage lives in the workflow.​

If the model isn't to your advantage, what is? Everything around it.

Take a regional health system using AI to handle patient communications across dozens of clinics. The differentiation has almost nothing to do with the underlying model. What matters is whether the system recognizes when a routine appointment request actually describes symptoms that require urgent care routing, verifies insurance eligibility across half a dozen payers in real time and handles a patient whose preferred provider has just left the network.

That operational intelligence lives in the workflows, prompts and EHR integrations built around the model, not in the model itself. Swap the model tomorrow, and it all comes with you. A competitor can license the same underlying model and still be years behind.

We built Vida on the principle of a model-agnostic architecture. Build systems so that tasks can be routed across providers based on what works best for a given workflow, not based on which vendor cut the best deal last quarter. As the underlying models keep improving, deployment automatically benefits. No rebuilds. No reevaluation cycles. No regrets.

How does lock-in actually happen?​

Companies rarely choose vendor lock-in. They drift into it.

It starts rationally. A provider offers strong pricing, dedicated support, early access to new capabilities and integration help that accelerates your road map. Six months in, your evaluation pipeline, observability tooling, prompt libraries and internal workflows have all formed around that provider's architecture. The decision you made in week one is now embedded across your stack. When pricing changes or a competitor leapfrogs, the cost of switching is measured in rebuilt operations.

Keep enough separation between your application layer and your model provider that the underlying dependency may evolve without forcing changes across your entire system. That principle is decades old in software engineering. AI's pace just makes it urgent.​

Why do so many organizations still focus on model choice?

Model choice is still the most visible part of the AI stack. Model providers constantly promote new capabilities, benchmark results and product releases, so executives assume that picking the "right" model is their biggest strategic decision.

Model-agnostic architecture hasn't gone mainstream yet because it requires more upfront engineering discipline, while committing to a single provider often feels easier when vendors offer bundled credits, dedicated support and proprietary developer tools that accelerate deployment. In my conversations with enterprise customers, that upfront investment starts to make sense the moment they see how quickly AI capabilities evolve, pricing changes and leading models shift—making flexibility a long-term advantage.​

Ask these questions instead.​

Stop asking which model to pick. Start asking three questions.​

1. If your current provider raised prices 30% tomorrow, how long would migration actually take? If the answer is more than a quarter, your architecture is the problem, not the pricing.​

2. If a new model started outperforming yours on the workflows that drive your business, could your team take advantage without a major rebuild? If not, you've optimized for today at the expense of every tomorrow.​

3. Where is your team's time actually going: improving the model layer or improving the workflows, data and customer experience around it? Only one of those compounds.​

Five years from now, the winners in AI won't be the companies that picked the right model. They'll be the ones that built, so they never had to.​

The Walking Dead: Dead City has finally stumbled upon a mostly-winning formula for its third season, delivering compelling new elements and a bold new direction that should have been part of the show's DNA from the start. Outside of a messy premiere episode "reboot," of sorts, the Season 3 story — and where we find Maggie and Negan as frenemies-to-friends — is what this series should have been all along.

Season 3 is as close to a do-over as the show can muster given the sloppy tapestry of the last few years with the Croat, the Dama, bitter Hershel, and New Babylon — and with Maggie and Negan pretending like they already hadn't come to a friendly coexistence by the end of the mothership Walking Dead's final season. Hopefully, you'll forgive the initial hastiness to undo the missteps of the first two seasons, but once that dust settles (literally, kind of), the new path our characters find themselves on is quite good. And in the back half of Season 3, you're going to see a phenomenal episode unlike anything the Walking Dead universe has ever done before.

Season 3 is far less cluttered than the first two, and keep in mind that the end of Season 2 was already working to reset the missteps of Season 1, awkwardly shuttering that weird Last of Us-style apocalypse father/daughter set up with Negan and Ginny — a bonehead idea meant to ride the coattails of a trend at the expense of Negan's own previous personal growth and actual new family. Pairing Maggie and Negan up for a new series was a grand idea, but Dead City started off the blocks by pretending that Walking Dead: Season 11 never happened, and now we've finally gotten to the point where it's narratively acknowledging that was a dickhead move.

In a zompocalypse story, there's only one true endgame. Posed as a question, it's: "How do we rebuild?" Dead City now goes a step beyond that and explores whether or not a true utopia is really possible. Should a community always have to live in fear, in hiding? Is a non-lethal approach to community relations actually achievable? Scarcity causes panic and conflict, so can we actually get to a place of comfort and camaraderie — something better than even Alexandria, Hilltop, et al.?

Even if the thought of "Neggie" makes you wretch, you have to admit these two characters are connected at the deepest level. “

Manhattan continues serving as the backdrop here as Maggie and newcomer siblings nicely played by Aimee Garcia and Raúl Castillo try to create a community that not only thrives, but also clearly advertises itself to the world as a beacon of hope. This attempt to earnestly move forward means that past scars must get buried, and it allows Lauren Cohan to tackle her best Maggie material in years, confronting her grief over Glenn and finally settling into a dynamic with Negan that makes sense given all they've endured and experienced together.

Admittedly, I'm a "Neggie" shipper; I'm a sucker for this particular slow-burn enemies-to-? team-up. I would be over the moon if the "?" meant lovers or even smoochers, but I get why the show wouldn't want to go there. I also completely understand why most sane people, tried and true romance tropes aside, still can't forgive Negan and would never ever want this. That being said, and without spoiling some great things, Season 3 breaks down several walls and offers up intriguing, emotional avenues and scenarios you won't expect. I was simultaneously delighted and deflated, so make as much sense of that as you can. At the very least, even if the thought of "Neggie" makes you wretch, you have to admit these two characters are connected at the deepest level. That's the itch Season 3 is finally scratching, and not to sensationalize or make headlines either. It's thoughtful and wonderful and the one aforementioned back half episode is the best thing the Dead universe has done in years.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan, who has some pretty bad "shittin' pants" Negan-isms this season (oof), is a square peg in a sea of round holes, believing in Maggie's new dream and wanting the best for her, but also too trapped in his own pessimism to be anything other than adjacent to it all. Though now that Dead City has matured past these two being at each other's throats, and even past their uneasy frenemy phase, Negan figures himself as Maggie's protector even if she never asked for it and even if it undermines her new societal values. Negan's not off to the side sulking, no; he does however find himself slinking back into wastoid slacker Negan mode, befriending Dillard (Jimmi Simpson) — a former cop who's been living in a bar in some pretty harsh isolation and who's had to twist his psyche into some unique shapes in order to survive emotionally. It's a fun but complicated bromance.

Season 3 doesn't have a long-form villain; there's a third act antagonist, but for the most part, the struggle involves trying to be a bright virtuous light in a swamp of sin and selfishness. The season isn't a home run, considering the embarrassing heavy lifting done in the premiere to wipe the slate, and the messaging at the very end feels a little reductive and regressive. Nevertheless, the bulk of it is rich and meaningful; the new characters are well presented and well tended, some clunky old characters become non-issues, and Maggie and Negan — at long last — have the relationship they should have had since Dead City began.

Verdict

The Walking Dead: Dead City's third season is leaner...but not meaner. Its choice to stop forgetting that Maggie and Negan settled the majority of their shit back on The Walking Dead is the only path this show should have ever traveled. These two got their own series for a reason, and years in, hopefully we can now all acknowledge that it wasn't because they're trapped in a forever-war loop destined to bring out the worst in one another; if the series ever steps back into that territory, it would be a massive disservice. Season 3 puts its characters on the same page goal-wise, and it's a welcome change from the warlords and dictators and backstabbings of the past. Plus, it offers up an unexpected episode that's a zenith for the entire franchise.

Marano is producing the feature through her U.S. production company Calabrian Rhode, behind 2022 Netflix Original romantic comedy “The Royal Treatment,” which hit the streamer’s No. 1 spot worldwide upon its release.

British Columbia-based director Jason Lapeyre is co-producing via his label Osaka Sunset Pictures. Both are attending the Fantasia Film Festival’s Frontières Co-Production Market where they are presenting the project to genre buyers and industry at its marquee pitch event July 22.

“Our goal is to come out of the market with a partner who can help us complete our gap financing goals,” Marano told Variety. “We will be filming in British Columbia, and the tax incentives coming out of Canada allow for us to make a commercially viable film at a realistic scale without sacrificing passion or vision.”

Marano, best known for her leading role in five seasons of global TV hit “Switched At Birth” (2011–2017), has been building her career on the other side of the camera over the past several years. She founded Calabrian Rhode in 2018 with her mother and younger sister – respectively, longtime Primetime Emmy consultant for HBO Ellen Marano and singer, producer, and actor Laura Marano, who starred in “The Royal Treatment.”

Lapeyre’s genre features include “Cold Blooded,” Fantasia’s best Canadian film audience award winner in 2012, and “I Declare War” (2013), which picked up several awards on its festival circuit run.

Marano said she and Lapeyre, who became friends on set in 2013, had been talking about collaborating for years. More recently, she was talking with Elana Dunkelman and her writing partner, Becky Shrimpton about potential projects. “We all got together on a video call and started brainstorming an idea for one of the darkest and most terrifying horror scenarios of all time – a bridal party.

“Elana and Becky wrote an incredible script that truly captures all the complicated feelings that go into being a bridesmaid—the absolute wild fun and the bone-chilling psychological torment. It’s ‘Bridesmaids’ meets ‘Send Help.’”
