"I would like to [return to Wimbledon], at least one more time. Let's see," said Djokovic.

Djokovic reached the semi-finals of all four majors in 2025 with one final and one semi-final so far this year ahead of next month's US Open, live on Sky Sports.

However, this year's Wimbledon was seen by many as his best chance to win another Grand Slam before his career ends.

"I guess for 99 per cent of the players, that would be a very good [set of] Grand Slam results," said Djokovic.

"For me, it's good but not good enough, because I'm blessed and cursed to be used to something of a highest degree in terms of results and achievements.

"In some way, I'm also dealing with myself in a sense that I'm telling myself, look, this is amazing that you're still able to, as people around me are telling me, able to play at such a high level and push the youngsters to the limit for Grand Slam titles, which is true. But at the same time, I always have the highest expectations for myself."

Djokovic: Let's see what the future brings

Djokovic had a difficult Wimbledon draw over the last fortnight with wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Arthur Rinderknech, Roman Safiullin and a five-set thriller against Felix Auger-Aliassime just to reach the semi-finals.

He admits the "internal battle" of changing goals and expectations will play a role in what he decides to do with his career.

"I'm proud of what I achieved three nights ago. Felix is number, what, three, fourth player in the world. I have proven to myself and others that I can still play at the highest level, and I have," said Djokovic.

"Losing in straight sets against the best player in the world, okay. It is what it is. It's the reality you have to accept. But the tournament was positive in terms of the attitude on the court, the fighting spirit, the dedication. I mean, it's still there."

He added: "Of course, I still enjoy the thrill of competition. Maybe I don't enjoy all the hard weeks that are leading up to big tournament, putting myself over and over again through a lot of pain, physically mostly.

"I'm glad that this tournament, the body held pretty well. Pretty much every other tournament in the last two years it was always something.

"That's the main thing. I feel when I'm healthy, I'm still able to play as a top-five player, still able to compete at the highest level. I like it. I like this life. I mean, tennis has given me everything in my life and has allowed me an opportunity to become who I am.

"At the same time, you know, of course there's always a question how far you want to go, what you want to play, how you want to play etc.

"I go through that process, but I try to take it, in a sense, a day at a time, see how I really feel. I don't have any pressure or no one is forcing me to play. I do it because I really want to and because I still can. I still can play as a top 10, top five player. Let's see what's future brings." %!s()

All this from a player who was doubtful to even be at the World Cup after suffering a stress fracture of his foot with Arsenal in January. Merino later revealed the injury left him unable to walk for two months, needing a mobility scooter to get around.

"I had two options, to go down and cry myself into extinction, or keep my head up, be positive and use my time to improve other aspects," he said in an interview following his return to training in May.

The speed of his recovery highlights the work ethic and strength of character that makes him so important to his coaches but his remarkable impact on the pitch shows his biggest quality; his extraordinary habit of producing goals when it matters most.

This is not the first time he has come up clutch for his country.

At the European Championship two years ago, it was his headed goal against Germany, in the penultimate minute of extra-time, that allowed Spain to go on and beat England in the final.

He has of course been similarly decisive for Arsenal, where he has evolved from midfielder to centre-forward, and everything in between, following his arrival from Real Sociedad in the summer of Spain's European Championship success in 2024.

But Merino's determination to make an impact was shown by the speed of his reaction to bury his goal. He anticipated the rebound when Pau Cubarsi struck his shot, alert to the situation.

Spain may need to be better in order to get past France in the semi-finals. If not, though, they have a player in Merino who can find a way.

"They're not scintillating, they could be better, " said Micah Richards on BBC One after the game. "But they are getting over the line. It's about moments in games and Merino in the last two games has certainly had his moments."

Carragher backs England to beat Norway

Jamie Carragher is tipping a narrow 2-1 win for England against Norway - but warned Thomas Tuchel's side not to underestimate their opponents in Miami.

The Sky Sports pundit said striker Erling Haaland will go down as "the greatest goalscorer of all time" - but warned Norway have more about them than just the goals of the Man City star.

"I think Norway will be a tougher proposition than maybe a lot of people think," said Carragher.

"I watched them against Brazil and I thought they were fantastic. They totally deserved to win that game. They dominated Brazil possession-wise in that second half.

"They have some really good players, but it's a game we can win."

Barker’s Obsession, released May 15, has grossed more than $400 million globally on a $750,000 budget. The film became the highest-grossing festival acquisition of all time after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival and is now Focus Features’ highest-grossing release ever.

Meanwhile, Parsons’ Backrooms has surpassed $350 million globally and is A24’s highest-grossing film in a number of countries. Parsons, 21, also became the youngest director to top the domestic box office.

“This is why I never bought into the arguments that young audiences’ attention spans are too fried to enjoy a three-hour Greek epic,” Nolan said. “Those films are so mysterious and ruminative. I mean, parts of Backrooms are like David Lynch at his most obscure. And yet young people can’t get enough of them.”

The Oppenheimer director continued: “I’ve never seen a more rapid wholesale dismissal of a supposedly foundational jump in technology in my lifetime. So much energy has been expended on bringing in AI, but if you look at that generation’s reaction, they’re utterly rejecting it.”

Nolan also cited his children, who are in their late teens and early 20s, as examples.

“Their judgment of AI slop has been immediate and harsh. They see it for what it is very quickly — and it’s much easier for them to identify it, because it grew out of an online world they know really well,” he explained. “While that doesn’t mean that every aspect of the technology is useless or meaningless, in filmmaking it’s hitting at exactly the wrong time. After years of driving towards heavily virtual environments, we’re seeing a renewed interest in more tactile, more real forms of storytelling.”

That sentiment was echoed when The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Gen Z moviegoers about the rise of younger filmmakers like Barker and Parsons.

“Audiences in general, but especially audiences my age, are getting so overwhelmed by all of the CGI movies — the Marvel epidemic. It really deterred a lot of people from wanting to go and see these big-budget movies,” one moviegoer said.

Nolan isn’t the only legendary filmmaker championing the next generation of talent. Steven Spielberg also recently praised Obsession, saying he “loved” the film and applauded Barker for making it on a budget of less than $1 million. 

As far as Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus’ long, torturous trip back to Ithaca after the Trojan War to save his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. Its star-studded cast includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Travis Scott, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong’o and more.
