England sealed a comfortable series win as they hammered Ireland by six wickets in a one-sided encounter in the second one-day international at Derby.

Fast bowler Issy Wong took 5-33 - her first international five-wicket haul - as Ireland were dissmissed for 165 before England cruised to their target in 23 overs to take the series with a match to spare.

Though England made light work of the chase, they were guilty of throwing away their wickets.

Openers Maia Bouchier and Sophia Dunkley, who starred in England's record-breaking chase in the opener at Leicester, started positively with a stand of 54 in seven overs.

Bouchier, who made 45 off 31 balls, inexplicably ran Dunkley out for 20 before also carelessly being caught off a short ball from spinner Kia McCartney.

Alice Capsey was pinned lbw for one and Jodi Grewcock chipped one to mid-wicket for 24, but all-rounders Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson safely steered England to victory with an unbroken stand of 41.

Ireland's batters impressed in the opener by posting 281 but their lack of depth was exposed without contributions from the experienced duo of Gaby Lewis or Orla Prendergast here.

After Wong bowled Lewis for 19, Amy Hunter held firm with her second fifty in as many games, but struggled for support from elsewhere as she fell to Wong for 64 and Ireland lost their last six wickets for 25 runs.

The series and England's international summer concludes at Worcester on Sunday.

Though England won the opener comfortably, their bowlers were unthreatening on a flat pitch in Leicester and struggled to take consistent wickets without Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone, who are resting for the series.

But Wong continued her resurgence under Charlotte Edwards' reign, and appeared to thrive with the responsibility of leading the attack as Lauren Filer was rested.

She bowled Ireland captain Lewis with a nip-backer before Prendergast wasted her solid start before holing out to deep mid-wicket for 25 off Mady Villiers.

Villiers also removed Rebecca Stokell for three, exposing Ireland's fragile middle to lower order for Wong to clean up, and they could not cope with her pace and accuracy.

Ireland managed just 10 boundaries in their innings and, to highlight the mismatch in the teams, Bouchier struck nine alone in her knock.

As the wickets tumbled, the pressure was on Hunter to steer Ireland to a competitive total, but she was caught on the boundary for Wong's fifth wicket to end a gritty 96-ball stay.

The game at Leicester was Wong's first ODI since 2024, and though the batting line-up was not of the highest quality, this was a performance that will please England and Edwards as her transition from bright, emerging talent to potential attack leader develops. %!s()

Steinem died on Monday at the age of 92, after nearly seven decades as a leading figure in the women’s liberation movement, and a defining voice of American feminism. A writer, journalist, organizer, and activist, Steinem’s life was defined by a commitment to embodying one’s politics in service of others. She was often motivated by a deep rage at the injustices around her, and like every great icon of the civil rights movement before her, died with unfinished business on the table. 

The politics of womanhood are perhaps in their most regressive moment since the women’s liberation movement of the 1960s and 1970s. The nation is governed by a far right political party intent on reimposing traditionalist gender dynamics and restricting women’s independence. The right to reproductive freedom has been burned out of federal law. The conservative movement openly endorses the elimination of hard won victories like no fault divorce, equal employment and opportunity protections, and access to birth control. They proudly proclaim support for male-controlled household voting, and see women’s departure from compulsory homemaking as one of the roots of social rot. The whole thing is headed by a president accused of sexual assault and misconduct by dozens of women over the course of his life. 

And yet, the foundation built by Steinem and her contemporaries — Shirley Chisholm, Betty Friedan, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Bella Azbug — continues to stand. If anything, Steinem was proven correct when she wrote that her years of political activism had left her with “one clear message: Voting isn’t the most we can do, but it is the least. To have a democracy, you have to want one.”

Steinem was clear that the ballot you cast is a cyclical affirmation of the values and community that took full time commitment and desire to build. Even in her final years, Steinem continued to host her famed “talking circles” at her home to discuss politics and culture with other women in a communal setting. Her most well known endeavor in that vein was her role as co-founder of the National Women’s Political Caucus in 1971. The organization recruited, trained, and supported women candidates for elected office across the country, and have seen generations of women enter political office at the state and national level. 

Steinem is credited as an inspiring influence by some of the most prominent female politicians, academics, and creatives in American political history. 

Former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton told MS NOW in response to news of her passing that Steinem had been the reason she first began wearing aviator glasses, adding that she and the activist had become closer later in life and that the loss was “personal” to her. 

“She wasn’t going to be an astronaut, but she made it possible for Sally Ride to be an astronaut. She wasn’t going to play college sports, but she stood behind the women in Congress who passed Title IX. And she wasn’t on the Supreme Court when Roe v. Wade was decided, but her voice and her activism was behind that advancement for women’s rights,” Clinton wrote. “Gloria Steinem pushed open doors not just for herself, but for literally millions of women behind.” 

Oprah Winfrey wrote in her own tribute that “Every woman who has ever walked into a room knowing she belongs there; every woman who has demanded equal pay, equal respect, ownership of her own body, and the right to make her own choices; every girl who has grown up assuming that her dreams are hers to pursue — whether she knows Gloria Steinem’s name or not — is living, in some measure, inside the progress Gloria helped create.”

They might read her writing or watch her many speeches and seminars, they might encounter her organizations and activism if they ever choose to run for office. They will experience the fruits of the movement she helped build even if they never knew her face. 

In the face of a far right movement that seeks to wrench the hard won gains made by generations of women who fought to drag the nation one step closer to gender equality, it’s up to each new generation to continue the struggle.

Officers believe two lorries were driven into a depot in Runcorn on Monday, each attached to a waiting trailer holding a combined total of about 800 barrels before being driven away.

Cheshire police are hoping for a full recovery of the stolen barrels, and have appealed for witnesses who may have seen a lorry entering the Aston Lane area at about 7.45pm.

The first lorry was said to have connected to the HGV trailer before leaving the depot at about 7.55pm in the direction of the Mersey Gateway bridge. The second lorry arrived at the same site at 9.12pm and connected to another trailer before leaving at 9.30pm in the direction of Rainhill and Watkinson Way, police said.

DS McClatchy said: “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you’, but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.

“It is with this in mind that we have wasted no time in launching inquires to identify those responsible for the theft of £115,000 worth of Guinness and the two trailers that housed the barrels. We will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.

“As part of our investigation into fully establishing what has occurred, we are now appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to the theft to please come forward and speak to officers.

“We would also ask any motorists who were driving in the area at the time of either of the incidents to please review any dashcam footage to see if you have captured anything that could aid our investigation.”

The stolen barrels, containing about 70,400 pints of Guinness, had been intended to be delivered to pubs. Diageo, which owns the brand, has a packaging warehouse on the Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane.

Police believe both HGVs were driven by men. The first driver was described as white with a short dark beard, and he was wearing a beanie hat. The second was believed to have been wearing a cap.

The trailers were described as white tri-axle curtain side trailers with branding for logistics company GXO on curtains and rear doors. The trucks have the unique ID numbers DL736 and DL542 on the top left corner of their rear doors.

When they are accounted for, it is estimated the total value of the items stolen is about £205,000. %!s()

Overview 

A leather-lined cabin, off-road capability, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain combine in the chic Range Rover Hybrid. Two versions of the gas-electric powertrain are offered, one making 454 horsepower and the other pumping that output up to 543.

Electric driving range is higher than average for the plug-in hybrid SUV class, and in our testing, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid managed to cruise at highway speeds for as far as 54 miles before the gas engine was required. Inside, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid offers the same premium experience as the rest of the Land Rover lineup, and its mid-sized shape provides ample room for adults to stretch out in both rows of seats.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Engine, Transmission, and Performance 

• Hybrid Powertrains: turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder and one electric motor, 454 hp combined (P460e), turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder and one electric motor, 543 hp combined (P550e)

Both P460e and P550e plug-in hybrid powertrains consist of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and an electric motor, but the latter makes a combined 543 horsepower while the former makes 454. Four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic are standard on both variants, but the P550e comes standard with an adaptive air-spring suspension system and a brake-based limited-slip differential, while those are optional on the P460e via the Stormer Handling package.

The Range Rover Sport Hybrid delivers a well-damped, even ride and relatively athletic handling for an SUV this size. Not only does a Range Rover need to perform on the road, but it also needs to be capable of tackling off-road trails. The Sport Hybrid model comes with an adaptive off-road cruise control feature and off-road driving modes. On our recent test drive, we were impressed with the top-trim P550e's vim and ride quality, but we felt that the changeover from EV to gas power could use a bit more refinement.

In Comparison: The P460e and P550e models both felt quick and reached 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and 4.4 seconds, respectively, in our testing.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

A 31.8-kWh battery pack gives the Range Rover Sport Hybrid up to 53 miles of electric-only driving range, according to the EPA. In our real-world range test, the P550e model actually beat its government figure, achieving a result of 54 miles before the battery ran out of juice.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

With fuel-economy estimates of 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid isn't as fuel-efficient as you'd imagine a hybrid to be. Factor in the electric driving range, and its fuel efficiency looks rosier at 53 MPGe combined.

On our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, the P460e achieved 55 MPGe in EV mode and 25 mpg in hybrid mode, beating its EPA estimates. We also clocked the P550e at 26 mpg in hybrid mode in our testing. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: Inside, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid's interior takes a minimalist approach to luxury. The design is streamlined, and the material quality is premium. Semi-aniline leather upholstery is standard, but you can opt for fabric-trimmed seats if you want to avoid cowhide. The front seats feature heat, ventilation, and massage; automatic climate control is standard. All models come with a power sunroof, a power rear liftgate, a power-adjustable steering column, a head-up display, and a suede headliner. An integrated cabin air purification system is available and is said to reduce odors, bacteria, viruses, and allergens.

Second Row: The spacious second row features climate controls for the rear-seat passengers as well as heated seats. Unlike some other mid-size SUVs, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid is not offered with an optional third row of seats.

Cargo Capacity: The Range Rover Sport Hybrid offers a generously sized 32-cubic-foot cargo bay. In our testing, we fit 10 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats and 27 in total with the second row folded down.

Infotainment and Connectivity

• Audio System: 19-speaker Meridian stereo (standard), 29-speaker Meridian stereo (optional)

The Range Rover Sport Hybrid's dashboard offers plenty of digital real estate, with a large 13.1-inch curved touchscreen serving infotainment duties and an even larger 13.7-inch screen parked in front of the driver to display the gauges. Land Rover's Pivi Pro interface is the company's best attempt at in-car infotainment yet, but it's not without its quirks. The displays are crisp and clear, though, and it looks high-end floating above the upholstered dashboard.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are standard, and all Range Rover Sports come with Amazon's Alexa. A wireless smartphone charging pad is cleverly integrated on a shelf just beneath the infotainment screen, too. A 29-speaker Meridian stereo system is optional on the Dynamic SE and standard on the Autobiography.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

A host of driver-assistance features are standard, including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree exterior camera system. An adaptive cruise control system is also included, and it even has an off-road feature.

Black was due to appear before the oversight committee on Thursday morning pursuant to a subpoena but refused to do so.

The committee instead held a closed-door session with an empty chair set aside for the missing billionaire.

Democrats on the panel called on it to formally hold Black in contempt "immediately."

One of the Democrats, Rep. Robert Garcia of California, said that "Black made women sign strict nondisclosure agreements ... to keep them quiet."

Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., said if it were up to him, "I would hold him in contempt right now." But Comer added that he wanted to discuss the issue with the panel's lawyers to avoid harming its chances of obtaining the NDAs.

"I'm very disappointed," Comer said. "This is unacceptable."

"We need those nondisclosure agreements."

Black's attorneys say the NDAs sought by the committee have nothing to do with his dealings with Epstein, and that Black had no knowledge of crimes that led to the financial advisor's arrest on federal child sex trafficking charges in 2019.

The panel issued the subpoenas on June 26, right after Black refused to answer questions about the NDAs and walked out of an interview when he appeared for a closed-door session.

"The Committee is on a fishing expedition that oversteps its authority," one of the lawyers, Susan Estrich, said in a statement. "This is no longer about finding the truth about Epstein. It is about trying to destroy Mr. Black."

Estrich noted that Black had previously voluntarily appeared before the committee and said he also gave the panel "the only confidentiality agreement that Jeffrey Epstein knew about as part of Mr. Black's cooperation with the Committee's efforts to ferret out the truth about Epstein."

"Mr. Black never abused a woman," Estrich said. "He never was with an underage woman. He never engaged in sex trafficking. He never paid Epstein for access to women. He was never blackmailed by Epstein."

Black's lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Washington claims the two subpoenas issued to Black are "invalid to the extent they exceed" the committee's "delegated authority in seeking private information that bears no legitimate connection to OGR's legislative purpose."

"Additionally, the subpoenas would also expose women who value their privacy, who have no known or public connection to Epstein, who bargained for confidentiality and have refused to release it, and who have no ability to protect themselves and their privacy before the Committee," the suit says.

Black stepped down as Apollo CEO in March 2021, months earlier than originally planned, two months after the firm revealed he had paid Epstein $158 million for tax and estate planning advice from 2012 through 2017 despite knowing that the financial advisor had pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from an underage girl in Florida.

Black testified to the House committee in June that, "The tax work was responsible for billions of dollars in savings."

Black also said then that Epstein duped him out of more than $60 million in financial advisory fees by falsely claiming that they were tax deductible.

Epstein, 66, killed himself in a federal jail in New York in August 2019, weeks after his arrest on federal charges.

Comer, in a statement Thursday, said, "It's a shame Leon Black is hiding behind litigation rather than provide answers to the American people."

"Our investigation is examining how the federal government for decades failed survivors of Jeffery Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's crimes and how Mr. Epstein sought to curry favor with influential individuals to avoid scrutiny," Comer said.

"Mr. Black's testimony is crucial to our investigation as he was one of Mr. Epstein's fee paying clients and has several nondisclosure agreements."

Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the panel, said in a statement, "By refusing to testify today, Leon Black is now defying two Congressional subpoenas."

Garcia said Black had paid millions of dollars to women he had sexual relationships with, "some of whom were also connected to Epstein."

"He also paid $62.5 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands to avoid Epstein-related claims against him. Black's name is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein files."

"He funded Epstein's abuse and trafficking of women. Multiple women have also accused Black of sexual assault," Garcia said. "His connections to Epstein and his unwillingness to cooperate are unacceptable. We must hold him in contempt immediately." %!s()
