Brent futures for November ended the day above $106.50 a barrel on Thursday, after earlier exceeding $108.

Prices eased slightly on Friday morning in Asia, with the benchmark standing at $105.77 a barrel as of 02:00 GMT.

The Houthis on Thursday said they had launched missile and drone attacks on a “sensitive target” in Riyadh and Aramco facilities in the Red Sea city of Yanbu.

The rebel group said both operations “achieved their objectives successfully” in a statement carried by the Houthi-run Yemen News Agency.

Saudi-led coalition forces said earlier that they intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis towards the kingdom.

Saudi authorities have not confirmed whether the attacks caused any damage or casualties.

Aramco, which supplies roughly 10 percent of global oil demand, did not respond to inquiries outside of regular business hours.

The latest flare-up in violence in the Middle East comes as the US and Iran are engaged in renewed diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to their seven-month conflict on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Thursday that he hoped Washington would return to their Memorandum of Understanding on ending the war, which lapsed in mid-August without a peace deal, before the US midterm elections in November.

“Relative to the post-war trend, these levels remain elevated and reflect the reality that critical supply routes and facilities are still vulnerable,” Tim Waterer, chief market ‌analyst at KCM Trade in Sydney, Australia, told Al Jazeera.

“Diplomatic efforts on the sidelines of the UN are providing some counterweight, but until there is clearer evidence of a durable de-escalation, the upside bias remains in place,” Waterer said.

June Goh, a senior oil market analyst at Sparta Commodities in Singapore, said oil would likely stay above $100 a barrel as long as the war on Iran continued.

“With no clear resolution in sight, the gap in oil inventories globally is getting wider,” Goh told Al Jazeera. %!s()

The ⁠Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said the missiles were ⁠aimed at Taif in western Saudi ​Arabia and the Yanbu area on the Red Sea, with the Houthis claiming their attacks were aimed at “a sensitive target” in the capital Riyadh and on Saudi Aramco facilities in Tanbu.

Oil prices climbed about 3%, but trade was volatile and prices came off session highs after reports the US and Iran discussed reopening the strait of Hormuz.

The escalating attacks threaten Saudi Arabia’s ⁠ability to export oil through the Red Sea at a time when the strait of Hormuz is disrupted and the kingdom’s east-west pipeline is only now resuming operations after drone strikes earlier ​this month. The Houthis declared a naval blockade on the kingdom in July, opening a ‌second theatre in the US-Iran war.

It was ‌not clear whether there was any damage or casualties in either Taif or Yanbu, the main alternative route for Saudi oil.

The Houthis seized the whole Yemeni western coast in a lightning offensive nearly two weeks ago that brought them to the shores of the Red Sea’s strategic Bab el-Mandeb waterway.

Yemen’s internationally recognised government pressed world leaders on Thursday for help defeating the militants, saying that their new perch along one of the world’s busiest waterways presents an international economic risk.

While claiming that their blockade only applies to Saudi shipping and there remains no threat to commercial shipping on the Red Sea, the Houths have also warned other nations not to get involved.

But the vice-president of the internationally recognised government council urged world leaders at the UN general assembly not to trust the Houthis’ assurances – and to see a bigger picture in the crisis around the strait.

“The Houthi militias’ use of the safety of navigation as a tool for blackmail threatens not only Yemen. It is taking hostage the entire global economy,” said vice-president, Abdullah Abdulkader al Alimi-Bawzer.

Arguing that protecting the strait “is the responsibility of every economy that depends on secure supply chains, energy security and freedom of navigation,” he urged the international community to keep weapons and technology from getting into the rebels’ hands.

The Saudi-backed government’s forces had earlier repelled overnight attacks by the Houthis on a key supply route to Yemen’s third-biggest city Taiz from the southern port city of Aden where the internationally recognised administration is based, government sources said.

The Houthis ⁠have kept up pressure along a steep, winding mountain pass known as Hejat al-Abd, a lifeline for government forces and the ​only route for goods and residents to reach Taiz and travel ​abroad. Seizing parts of the road could allow the Houthis to ​tighten their grip around the city and deal another blow to the government, which has struggled to regain the initiative since losing the western coast.

Riyadh’s foreign ministry said on Friday that Saudi ⁠Arabia, Turkey and ⁠Pakistan would ⁠hold ​an urgent ⁠meeting of their chiefs ⁠of ​staff ‌to ‌discuss ways to ‌support repel the Houthi attacks under their joint ‌defence agreement. Under the defence pact, all three countries agreed that an armed attack on any one of them would be treated as an attack on all three.

Officials in Pakistan are said to be deeply worried about being dragged into the never-ending war unfolding across the Middle East.

The Foreign Office said Miliband spoke to his counterpart about "the UK's unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups in UK soil, including attacks on the British Jewish community", and discussed war in the Middle East and a British couple detained in Iran.

There was no immediate comment from Araghchi. The Islamic Republic News Agency reported the men met and "discussed bilateral ties and international developments during their talks".

On Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly that any deal would have to include an end to the US blockade stopping Iranian ships from using the waterway.

Responding to US President Donald Trump's threat to "annihilate" the Islamic Republic if a deal is not reached soon, Pezeshkian said his country will never "bend the knee".

"The resistance of the Iranian people will only increase in the face of sanctions, increased pressure, increased bullying," he said.

There was no immediate comment from the US, whose delegation walked out of the chamber at the start of Pezeshkian's address.

The Foreign Office said Miliband also used Thursday's meeting to raise the detention of British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman in Iran.

The couple, who are from East Sussex, have been detained for more than 20 months after being arrested while passing through the country on a motorcycle journey.

In February, the Foremans were each sentenced to 10 years in jail on espionage charges, which they deny.

Ashby is living in the shed on his Yeppoon property while he undertakes renovations.

In an email sent to members on Thursday night, the party’s general manager, Kelvin Morton, said party funds had been used to build the shed.

He said the party’s national executive – on which Ashby sits as a member – had approved a “reinvestment package” into Small Batch Brewing to establish a micro distillery.

He told members that the party hoped to make money out of the “unconventional” business venture as early as next year.

“In an effort to minimise costs, including commercial rent and outgoings, it was unanimously agreed that One Nation would loan Small Batch Brewing the establishment costs for a shed and distilling equipment, which could be placed on land owned by a member of the executive,” the email from Morton to members said.

It is unclear how much money has been lent to the entity for brewing equipment.

“While Small Batch Brewing may appear on the surface as unconventional, One Nation are not alone in our investment decisions,” Morton said.

He pointed to the Labor party’s interests in licensed clubs and the Liberal party’s software company Parakeelia as similar ventures.

But, unlike these arrangements, Asic documents show that Small Batch Brewing Pty Ltd is not owned by the party or party-controlled trusts. Instead, the company is privately owned by Ashby, Pauline Hanson and the party’s former treasurer Alex Jones, who are equal shareholders.

Morton said the party anticipated making licensing revenue of between $400,000 and $500,000 a year based on projected sales, which was a “significant increase” in alcohol revenue from its current average of $105,796.00 each year.

The party now uses the contract brewer CAVU based on the Sunshine Coast to make its line of alcohol products.

“We are confident that our members will see the business opportunity that will drive stronger revenue and assist in the funding of future campaigns,” Morton said.

“Small Batch Brewing has engaged liquor licensing consultants to finalise licensing and ATO requirements before commencing production in 2027 …

“We look forward to providing you further updates on the progress of Small Batch Brewing and anticipate a special joint partner spirit ahead of Christmas.”

Ashby previously told Guardian Australia that Small Batch Brewing was “currently a non-trading entity”.
